If your truck is a column shift 3-speed and is giving you grief, 99% of the time
it is because the shifter is out of adjustment on the column under the hood.
Or, the little 3-speed tranny is shot. Make sure of these things first before
making drastic changes.
And, it is always better to swap in a 4-speed before putting in one of those
lousy floor shift conversion kits.
I've had better luck installing a 4-speed and finding a driveline the right
length isn't hard - you'll need to swap the yoke, though, because the output
from the tranny will be bigger than the yoke on the rear.
But conversion u-joints are available too. I did my whole conversion for $150
and it too about six hours by myself.
You will need to cut out the floor plate and install the tranny cover from
4-speed equipped truck too. None of this is hard at all.
