Anyone ever used a lye solution as a paint stripper. I was reading a restoration book that said to use it as a degreaser but that it would also strip the paint before moving on to rust repair. Just wondering if anyone has ever used it and how well does it work.

Guy that builds my engines use's lye to vat them it takes everything off pretty ruff stuff

it will flat out remove all paint but the part soaks in it for awhile too ..

If you do try to use lye do not get it on alum that caustic will eat it up and make a mess.
