I've got a LOT of rust outs on my cab that i've been finding lately. Apparently, someone thought that bondo was a rust killer and now it's all starting to pop out again. :bs: The worst parts are these:

top of cab above windshield
areas around the driprails all the way 'round the cab
sides of cab above where the door weatherstrip mounts

What's the best way to fix these places? Cut the rusty parts out then, gulp, put bondo in the holes? I was thinking about grinding the rust out and welding in new pieces of thick sheetmetal, then sanding it, and put bondo over that. I have everything I need, but would that be too much trouble? The surprising thing about this cab is that the firewall inside the cab, the dash, transmission tunnel, and floor under the seat look BRAND NEW! The only crappy parts are the ones listed along with both rockers, left cab corner, and the outer 2 or 3 inches of both floorboards. Otherwise the cab is in good shape. I hate it because it's been raining and it leaks water in over 4 different places and I can't do any work to it when it's wet. :(

Thanks in advance,

Just my opinion, but if I had rust in the places that you do, I'd get a new cab.

My cab was pretty solid but did have rust coming inside from a leaking driprail. It had started to rust out the inner roof. I replaced the inner roof and rust-proofed and sound-proofed in between the inner and outer roof. I really like the results and I don't think I have to worry about rust in the roof arrea again BUT, unless your ready for a whole lot of work, then get a better cab.

I've got everything I need to fix the cab, put it that way. If it ain't raining tomorrow I'm going to go ahead and get started with the areas around the door opening and see how bad it really is once I get all the bondo off.
