Has anyone out there ever used dupont's variprime epoxy primer over the top of por-15? and if so is there a procedure? I have alot of pieces already coated with por-15 and have recently learned the advantages of an epoxy-primer. I just dont want to have to re-sandblast all this stuff if I can help it.

por 15 should be coated with thier ticoat b-4 using other paints on top. it doesn't make much sence to me why you'd want to use epoxy primer over the por15

Be careful with that POR. I had poor results and switched to Eastwoods rust encapsulator. So far I'm pleased. Although I'm still checking it out.

The best results I ever got out of POR is doing with it just what the name imply's.......Painting over rust. On any prepped metal I had mixed results without any predictability. TJ

I used the por-15 to stop the rust on some pieces like the battery tray, But now I'm thinking I want to paint the entire underhood (core support, inner fenders etc.) with a satin black and make it all look like factory. The por-15 is very glossy and it would be easier to use a self etch primer on top of it. I have tried to sand por-15 in the past and it's not that easy. I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried it, and if so did the variprime etch into it well?

If you READ the tech sheets on variprime and any other etch made out there it says "BARE METAL"

Personally I think it would fail...Eric

What if you just tried a "test" panel?
Give it a shot and see what happens...

if you have variprime, then there is no need for por. get it to bare metal and then use the variprime.
