Anyone have a recommendation or source for media blasting in the Delawrare area? How about cost-how much did it run you? Do I understand correctly that media (plastic) blasting will take the paint off but not the rust-so any rust will have to be hit again with silica?

Are there any 'acid dipper' shops in the region (including Philadelphia)?

thanks

As a followup question: where does one purchase the plastic media used for blasting? I can find silica locally but do not know where to begin for other forms of media. If I were to use a fine silica blasting the body panels at a 45 degree angle (versus perpendicular to the panel), would the panels still (possibly) warp? has anyone seen 'warped' body panels from sand blasting (got pictures)?

finding a little info,,,

The above link shows a poly bead that Eastwood sells. It's pretty expensive! Can poly bead (plastic) be resued over and over? With silica and glassbead, by the time I've shot it the second time all of the sharp edges have worn down and iit does not cut through to the metal any longer.

Answers: well, I've figured everything out-first had to figure out that it is call 'poly bead' -then got a lot of info on the web.

here is a source: http://www.compomat.com/plasti-5types.shtml

Distributor for the above company in Philadelphia area: "Omni Finishing" 800-220-1075.
Sold by the pound at $1.80 or by the 250 pound drum at $1.64. The manufacturer's techie told me its possible to get 10-20 cycles using poly bead-but that is with a separating system that separates the used material from the residue (screens and a magnet). The material comes in five different hardness types and five different sizes. The distributor told me the 20-30 size is most typical for cleaning auto bodies (but it varies depending on material you are removing). The distributor repackages the media in 25 lb boxes. four boxes (100 pounds worth) would be $180.00 (shipping is extra).

There was a guy in Greensboro, NC that had a drive in booth. He bead blasted bodies. A few years ago he only charged about $300 for the full body. Not that NC is that close to DE.
