Just went and bought a gallon of the top of the line Dupont Croma Premere primer...............it is a medium light gray..........I am painting my truck the original light green with white two tone accents......

I'm thinking that this primer is pretty dark and may darken the color coat......is this a worry?

Also if a little bare metal shows in areas where I have sanded thru the original paint with 220, the high spots and corners and such, do I have to hit them with etch prior to priming, or will the primer suffice on these small areas......

Grey primer works better for lighter colors, and the brownish red works better for darker colors.

Dupont is very dependant upon "Value Shade". Which is the tint/color of the primer. If you are planning on painting this truck with Dupont paint(And you should if you are using Dupont primer) then you should have the right shade of primer under it. It makes a big difference in the final color.

If you are just talking about a primer/surfacer because you are straightening panels...it doesn't matter much. But when you are ready to paint, you are going to have to use the "Value Shade" primer first. If the entire truck is not the same color before you shoot the base coat....you WILL be able to see it later.
