Ok i have decided to use an alkyd enamel on my 72. I know i have to use a reducer to thin it out so it will come throught the gun, but what about a hardner? Is there a specific hardener for this type of paint, or does it even require any?? Any info is much appreciated.

Not required, but recommended. When you buy the paint, the supplier will have the hardener specifically for that paint. Acrylid enamel is fairly easy to shoot and dries a little faster than acrylics.

Hey Randy, can you get a nice glossy shine out of an acrylic enamel? Is it much more expensive? Do you have to thin it down and use a hardner with it? i take it that means it cleans up with water? So many questions!!!! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Won't clean up with water! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif They cost about the same, and shine about the same. If you've never painted, I recommend the Acrylid enamel. Both have to be thinned with enamel reducer or activator (two names for the same stuff).

The paint job that is on my 72 right now was done with alkyd enamel and an electric Wagner sprayer. I did it myself just to keep the rust from spreading, so i do have some experience, but not much. I have had this orange paint for about 2 years or so, and it's an alkyd enamel. So I figure I might try my hand at paint the truck again, only this time I have a real sprayer.

Sometimes i think she's more excited to start this project than I am. She amazing when it comes to detail, so she's the perfect person for the job of body work.
