I've got some Bondo brand UV activated spot putty for doing the final prep on the truck. I'm finished all the actual body filler and sanding, but I looked this stuff over and it says I need to let it set in direct sunlight for 5-10 min to properly cure.

My question is, since I work on this thing at night, and we've got a pretty small window of sunlight here after work, will heat and artificial light do any good, or do I have to wait until saturday to punt the bitch outside before I can get primer on it? Since it speciffically says UV activated all over the packaging, I imagine I've screwed myself here. If so, is there a heat activated version I can get my hands on fast?

Also, I've never used spot putty, and I'm wondering if you guys n' galls have any tips or tricks to using the stuff.

if it's not a 2 part spot putty STAY AWAY FROM IT!...there are a lot of companies that make a glazing putty (much thinner in consistency) that comes with a hardener that you mix in just like regular filler..those are the ones that you want to use...

yeah, what rigo said, try USC Icing or Evercoat metal glaze. the spot putties that dont harden are for when you are in the booth (high volume collision shop) and see a nick in the paint, then you use a razor blade and wipe a little in the nick. they are soft when applied and get even softer when the solvents get into them. search for martinsr's basics of filler thread, it explains everything. use you filler of choice, then a glazing putty like icing or metla glaze, then primer then paint, and you shouldn't need a spot putty

ok. It's actually called Glazing/Spot putty. I'll see if any body shops around have a two part glazing putty I could use in the garage.

Thanks for the help guys.

I tried that uv crap before but just on model cars. It sucks, if its not sunlight it doesn't harden at all.

That is the answer I was looking for. Awesome. I'll certainly be returning it then. :metal:
