View Full Version : Wheel/Tire Fitment Pictures & Info
saxmo 03-02-2005, 10:53 PM hey guys, I am trying to compile some data and pictures. The second gen camaro site has a thread in the FAQ's that shows pictures of various levels of suspension mods, and the tire/wheel combination that goes with it. i am trying to do a similar thread for this site.. Josh said he would post it in the FAQ section once we got the data together. What we need is a picture of your ride with the specs on your suspension, wheels, tires. It would be nice to have 15, 16, 17, 18", etc. wheels with stock, 2/4, 3/6, bagged, etc. ride heights. Please include the specifics on your wheel/tire manufacturer, size, and don't forget the backspacing on those rims. It would be an AWESOME thread for the new (and not so new) guys to see the various setups, so they can decide on a direction for their ride. So lets get to work and get-r-done. Thanks Dwayne
68LSS1 03-02-2005, 11:02 PM I think this a good idea but one of the mods need to make this thread a sticky.
saxmo 03-03-2005, 11:10 AM I already pm'd Josh, so there should be no problem

miket 03-20-2005, 10:29 PM A few pics....
15x8 and 15X10's with 275/60's all the way around...
and then I experiemented with 345/50s on the rear....
68Stepbed 03-22-2005, 06:10 PM My truck only has a 1" drop in front and a 2 "drop in the rear. The first picture is with 17 x 7(3.5" bs) and 255/60/17 tires and the back are 17 x 9.5(5.5" bs) with 275/60/17 tires. The back w/t combo will fit good on a fleetside but they rubbed on the inside and I had to use a spacer on one side and I also HAD to have an adjustable panhard bar to center the rearend. A 9.5" rear wheel would work better on a stepside with 5" of backspacing unless you use a smaller rear tire like a 275/50/17.
In the bottom picture is when I changed back to 15x8 with 275/60/15's all the way around. Most of you are probably wondering why I changed from 17's to 15's. I drive my truck everyday, it really is a daily driver. I needed to go to something with better service. Tires are cheaper and I can rotate them for longer life. I'm happy with my decision. :aiiet:

slamd58 03-27-2005, 01:21 PM Any chance we can do the same thing for the 4x4 Trucks and Blazers? lifts, bodylifts, tires, wheels, etc.
Awesome Idea
special-K 03-27-2005, 01:29 PM Sure,but I think we should start a seperate thread.
Elsie72 03-31-2005, 08:41 PM Ok, here is my truck, 72 Long bed with 2 1/2" drop spindles, and 1" drop coils in front, and 5" drop coils in the rear. Tires are Good Year Eagle GT II's 235-60/15 front and 275-60/15 rear on 15 x 8 steel rallys with 4" bs, I believe.
powell72 03-31-2005, 09:29 PM Elsie72, your truck has a great stance, got any closeups of the 235's on the 8'' wheel?
Elsie72 04-01-2005, 06:35 PM Elsie72, your truck has a great stance, got any closeups of the 235's on the 8'' wheel?
Thank-you. I like how everything turned out, and the ride is much better than I remember it being at stock height. I don't have a good picture of the front tire, but I can go take one and send it to you.
powell72 04-01-2005, 11:00 PM That would be great, no rush though.
I am probably going to go with either the truck or vette ralleys on my 69 step. I am wondering if there are other center caps that fit the truck ralleys besides the original caps? It would have to bolt on as the original ones or snap over the lugs like the later model ones I suppose.
What are the center cap options for the vette ralley besides the big derby?
It's time to make a decision.
powell72 04-03-2005, 11:23 PM You can go with either a pancake cap or a disk brake cap which isn't as big as a derby.
Dual quad 04-04-2005, 08:50 PM These older threads have some good wheel/tire posts

If I remember correctly the truck had a 6/8 drop spindles & coil up front and coil for the rear. All I can really remember is that it had about 1.5-2" of clearance under the A-arms

farside847 06-09-2005, 03:51 PM Well, since my set up has changed, I thought I would post my truck here again. Look at my last post on this thread to see what it was like before... Now it has 15x8 ralleys and BFG Radial TA 255/70/15 on all four. Still set at stock height. My wife says its "sexy" :bann:

tomatocity 06-29-2005, 12:34 AM 72' w/ 68 clip, stock rear LEAF, 2" front "blowtorch" drop, 20" 275/45/20" all the way around. I'm thinking needs bout 2" down in the back, now just gotta figure out how many bricks to load up.
Looks good.
Save the bricks and use extended shackles (1.5"-2.0"). Inexpensive and you will get a new bushing in the deal. Not only will it lower the rear but it should also ride better with teh new bushings.
I am glad to see your pics since I am trying to decide how to lower my leaf truck approximately 6". Drop leafs; drop mono leaf, standard curl; drop mono leaf, reverse curl; extended shackles; flip kit; c-notch, c-notch kit; rear shock relocators;...
72MARIO 06-29-2005, 07:57 PM How about dearched 3" or 4" and a 2" shackle ? Thats what I have done. Should be good While the springs are in the shop get new bushings installed.
Note.
2" drop shackles will not work with a wood floor. Thats why they make the 1.5" shackle.
Rokcrln 07-01-2005, 06:16 PM Right now mine has the old tires on. My others are in storage while I get the shop set up ( just moved). But what goes on the truck are 17" ralleys with 335/35/17's in the rear with a 7 1/2-8" bs on an 11" rim. Up front they are 245/40/17's with a 4 1/2"bs on 9" rims if I remember right. The truck is bagged, body dropped 2", 3" drop spindles in the front and about 2" notch and 4" Z frame in the rear. The rockers sit about 5/8" off the floor and tires stuff up fully with about 1/4" femder to side wall gap.

OldSkool71 07-16-2005, 08:12 PM anyone done a 4/6 or 5/7 drop with 20's up front and 22's rear or 18's up front and 20's in the rear? Like to see that with info. :hmm:
Swbman 07-21-2005, 12:55 PM Is a 275/60 the widest tire that can be put on a 15x8 rally?
72MARIO 07-22-2005, 10:39 PM It's the best looking tire IMO for a 8" Rally. Go with a 275 60 and you will be happy,
Swbman 07-26-2005, 03:50 PM Is anyone running 50 series tires on rallys, if so what size are you using for front and back? Would a 295/50/15 look good and work on a 15x9 wheel for the rear?

dseipel 10-16-2005, 11:54 PM Would a '72 chevy long bed look good w/all chrome rally rims 15x8 w/ the derby caps, sporting 275 60 15 bfg t/a?? I cant decide on 20's or stock size.
Pacemaster 10-17-2005, 10:42 AM Installed the 8'6" Cabover last month. Yesterday my friend and i swapped out the 5:12 diff carrier and installed a good 4:10 unit. nice rpm drop at highway speed.
Already Gone 10-18-2005, 02:45 PM Ok, here is my truck, 72 Long bed with 2 1/2" drop spindles, and 1" drop coils in front, and 5" drop coils in the rear. Tires are Good Year Eagle GT II's 235-60/15 front and 275-60/15 rear on 15 x 8 steel rallys with 4" bs, I believe.
After studying and figuring I have decided to go with the same drop (2 1/2 Spindles 1" coil and 5" coil in the back) as you. When I saw the pics of your truck I couldn't figure out why the rear of your truck is still so much higher than the front cause my plan is to get mine almost even front to back. I have figured out why yours is so much higher in the back and its because your rear tires are 1.88 inches higher than the fronts. Did you replace your shocks or use the super track bar with this drop?
Dual quad 10-18-2005, 07:45 PM Already Gone, I only come up with .88" difference (28 vs 27.1). Also, remember that the only half of that (to the center) will impact the vehicle height.
Already Gone 10-19-2005, 08:11 AM Already Gone, I only come up with .88" difference (28 vs 27.1). Also, remember that the only half of that (to the center) will impact the vehicle height.
Hi Dual Quad that truck looks to me like it has way more than 1" diff in height from front to back.
..Here is how I figured it out. Let me know if I missed something.
275mm=10.82in tread width x 60%= 6.49in. Therefore 6.49(ground to rim)+6.49(top of tire down to rim)+15.00rim diameter = 27.98in.Rear tire
235mm=9.25in tread width x 60%= 5.55in. Using same formula as above 5.55 + 5.55 +15.00 = 26.1in front tire............... 27.98-26.1 = 1.88.. I've always figured it like this and I use .03937 x the tread width for my inch measurement.
Dual quad 10-19-2005, 09:15 AM Yep, your right, I used a 16" wheel on my spreadsheet for the smaller tire, thus the 1" error. Nonetheless, a 1.9" overall height difference will equate to only half of that difference (less than 1") in body height. This is because only one sidewall contributes to the distance to center at any one time.

purple gas 11-09-2005, 07:50 PM Great freekin idea.. I am trying to decide what size of rubber to put on my truck and have been wondering if there was such an easily accessible way to compare..
