I'm new to this board and I'm looking for advice on a project that I'm doing research for. My goal is to build a mild custom '67-'72 1/2 or 3/4 ton long bed. The truck will be used as a daily driver and tow vehicle. We will be towing a trailer of approx. 6000lbs across the country so I need reliability and torque for those mountains that are between us (Calif.) and everywhere else. Good fuel economy is important also.

My plan is to build a 383 small block stroker with vortec heads backed by a 700r4 driving a 3.73 or 4.10 rear end. I want to run EFI but I can't decide between TBI, TPI or aftermarket like the Edelbrock multi-point TBI system. The reason that I'm going SBC is because I already have a good 4-bolt 350 core to build on.

Well there you go, kinda long but I'm wide open to any and all advice, criticisms or thoughts.

Welcome to the boards.

I think if i was to build a truck to use as a tow rig,it would at least be a 3/4 ton.

Welcome to the boards!

I'd go with a 3/4ton for reliability while towing that much that often, the 700r4 im not sure if I would use tho since you cant really tow with it in overdrive anyway.... 4l80 (which is $$$$) or a good 5spd would be my choice...
