If you live in the USA but you're not cool enough to live in Cali or not warm blooded enough to live up north, you probably belong in here. :D

I lived in Cali, believe me, anyone who has to work that hard to be cool, ain't cool...

If this offends anyone, you're in the wrong region! jk!!!

i used to live in cali too. my dad was military for 20 years...i was born in new orleans, moved to new york for a year or two, then to jacksonville, then to dallas-ft. worth, then to san diego, then to orlando, then to gainesville (FL) and then up to atlanta. only the last two places were choices of my own!

with a roll call like that, i guess it's a good thing there's one area for "south" hehe

Shifty, you been around! Yeah, I did almost 12 years in the Navy, I know what the travelling is all about...

On a side note, I liked California, but I have liked every place I ever went. It's not where you are, it's what you make of it... well, except for those COLD states, I'm getting old and can't (don't want to) handle the cold.

I'm not "warm blooded" enough to live comfortably in the northern states and I live north of northern states. (it's called being born Canadian.) Up here most people spend at least 6 months of their free time indoors in their 70 F heated homes.

I dislike (lol) with every afternoon below 45 F and my idea of the perfect summer is 3 months of weather between 85-104 F (our summers are in the high 70's)

I have some family in the South (GA, AR, KY...) and someday I hope to move down.

Come on down! You better hurry before the Yankees take over.;)

I can't come down now, the Yankees (Washington) won't let me.
BTW after spending quite a bit of time down there, I get the impression I like the South more than most Southerners do. I hope by the time I have enough money to move (or a good job) that Dixie won't be a far to distant memory... or worse.

ie. If almost no one drawls anymore or Southern hospitality dies I won't come back, ever. To me the South without Southern culture is like Hawaii with no Hawaiian culture. How appealing would vacationing in a carbon copy of Detroit or NYC (just an example, no offence intended) but it's built on top of tropical islands? To me (and I hope most people) that would sound boring. I feel the same way about the South.

So if there's not much 'Dixie' left in the South by the time I can move, I'll go straight past the U.S. and go somewhere like Australia, Costa Rica or New Zealand.

Re; I can't come down.

I mean I can't legally work there (yet) and I can't afford to stay in a hotel very long. If I had it my way (but not be able to work in the states) I'd work in Canada and spend maybe 30 weekends a year in Dixie. That'd be sweet.

I have a clean criminal and even driving record, lol! A friend from NC let me stay down for a few weeks.

I don't mean to offend anybody by saying this. My observation is that most yankees move to the south to get away from the crap they deal with up north, then the whole time they're here they say "That isn't how we did it up narth".

Well.............that's the way we do it down here.

Like I said, not trying to offend anyone. I have a few yankee friends. I even like some of them better than some locals. Southern hospitality is here to stay.

BTW We don't fly the stars and bars out of hatred or prejudice, we're just proud of who we are and where we live. I don't blame anybody for wanting to live here. Never too hot, never too cold, not alot of tornados, no hurricanes or earthquakes, not too much snow, lots of good food, and friendly people.

I LOVE IT HERE!! Come on down, we'd love to have ya.

no hurricanes

Didn't Dennis just breeze through? or was it weak by that time?

I am originally from Greenville NC, and we had hurricanes, and not too many tornadoes but one time when I was 14 or so we had 16 in one night in NC.

By the time hurricanes hit TN they've died out and just become bad storms.

Ivan hit western NC pretty bad last year. It was bad enough the first go but it did a 180 in VA and came back through. I have a friend who is a fireman in Canton. He said city hall was flooded with like 19 feet of water and the paper factory had about the same. Huge mess.

Not offended, brought my southern born girl friend down here and married her. DO NOT miss Indiana snow. Maybe went to far south compared to TN, it does get too hot, but never too cold. Did get windy, last year Ivan left us out of power 3 days. The trucks and cars aren't as rust free as I thought they might, comes from red dirt, leaves and pine needles LOL. Good food, friendly people AND beautiful country. Oh, one other advantage, we're 6 beers from Panama City Beach!

Whizzers are at the top of the wanted list for bike collectors, along with Schwinn Phantoms. You can see some of mine at link to my bike page,

Like the old "banana seat" cruisers. Had some of those growing up in the 70's. Still have my wife's from her youth. Needs resto. Hope to pass to my daughters. My Whizzer is a 1999 repro(black). Tops out at about 40mph. Fun! Enjoyed the pics. BTW-My uncle has one of those engine kits (like Sears) NIB.

I fired mine up once and it hardly had power, I figured the seals were dried out. May have to get it running with the way gas is. I have 3 banana seat Stingray projects, a 64 coaster, 65 3 speed, and 66 Black Ram's Horn. Schwinn.com has a collector's board similiar to this one, that may be the place to put that engine, or Fleabay, of course.

I've been in the Navy almost 14 years now, and I've been around this country. Even Hawaii for three years! I won't live anywhere but the South voluntarily. Things are just sooo different here. But ya'll are right, the South just ain't what it used ta be. I get sickened every time I see...tons of things.(was gonna list them, but I don't wanna even get started.) :drama:
My family has been blessed to be a part of the South since at least 1714. This is home, and I'm tired of feelin' out of place in my own home! :m5: I can't even fly the flag my g-g-g grandfather fought for because it means "I hate black people" to people who nowadays have no morals. Yes...I'm saying I'm scared to fly it. Scared for my family's sake. I can't always be there, shotgun ready. Plus, the Lord taught me that my pride shouldn't be a stumbling block to others.

See. Ya'll got me cranked up now. Thanks!

We won't heckle you long. Southern style is truely a lifestyle. Many not from the area look at us like we're crazy. But after they're around a while it starts to sink in. Also get the occasional comment on how we talk. The most common newcomer in our area has a new name. We call them "half-backs". They move from the north(away from the winters) to Florida then leave(because of weather or real estate prices) halfway back to the Carolinas. Good luck on your journey. Bring more Chevys.
