I want to bring my '72 K20 that is still in Nebraska here to Mo. but don't know if they enforce their lift laws. Mine sits on 38's with about 9" of lift. I'm sure it will never get thru an inspection to license it here, especially with the front springs sitting on 2-1/2" blocks. I know, a no-no, but it has 5 or 6 super stiff leafs and has never been a problem. I done it quick to see if I liked the 38's on it, intending to get new springs if I was going to leave the big tires on it. One thing is for sure, I don't want to shell out for the correct springs, install them and still not be able to drive it here because it is too high. I'll drop it down & put smaller tires on it if I have to. I have seen lifted trucks running around here, are they just squeeking past the law?

I don't think you can get it legal with those tires. I have the actual law here somewhere but will have to look for it. I may have thown it away. Most guys that are running illegal know someone that will pass it. Most places dont really inspect here, unless u a near a larger city. My truck is on 35's and a 4 inch and its a couple inches over. The MSHP here are pretty cool about it if ya drive right. I have heard of some areas that have some pretty strict patrolmen.

You should probably get to the area where u are going and talk to someone with a lifted truck.

Found this little bit of info for ya. Its not the writtien law but tells you the limits.

MISSOURI

Here's another state that use GVWR as the bumper-height guideline. For vehicles 4,500 pounds and under, the front bumper can't be taller than 24 inches and the rear must see no more than 26 inches. For 4,501 to 7,500 pounds, it's 27 inches in front and 29 rear, and for 7,501 to 9,000 pounds, it's 28 and 30 inches. More info.

Thanks. I wonder if the measurements are to the bottom or top of the bumper. If they intend it to be measured to the top, a lot of factory- new trucks would not be legal. A Dodge 1-ton 4x4 would be a perfect example.

I'm a current MO state safety inspector and just what mudder said, it doesn't matter how hight you've got it up off the ground as long as you go by the below guidelines ontop of other inspeciton check points, you can pass inspection with no problems. and we measure from ground to the highest point of the bottom of the bumper.

I might just leave it sit in Ne. for now until I figure out what I want to do with it. I like playin' around in the mud, so I don't really want to drop it. It kinda depends on how far away & how frequent mud drags are around here. I haven't looked into that yet. I don't want to trailer it too far just to play in a mudhole with today's gas prices. I don't have the coin to spend on the motor right now either. My 500 Cad. runs strong for a stocker, but I wouldn't want to run against only guys with deep pockets. Is there much "run what you brung" events around here, or is it all taken over by serious competition?

I see alot of trucks around here running 35's and 38's. Just drive right when u are on the road. Don't draw attention to yourself. I think you'll be alright. Lots of mud drags around MO. Can't think of the club right off hand in KC but will post when I figure it out.
