I'll give you some instructions on how to use it. Click on your Start menu. Go to the Programs Menu. Inside there you should see an "Accessories" folder. Usually inside that folder you'll see something called "MS Paint" or just plain 'ol "Paint". Open this program. NOTE: If you don't see it there, open a "Run" box (Click the Start Menu and choose "Run"). In the run box, type mspaint and click 'OK'. So, you should have Microsoft Paint open now. From the File menu, choose "Open". Find the picture you want to open wherever it is on your computer. When you open the file, press CTRL + W (press and hold the CTRL key, then press W). This should open a small window that says "Stretch and Skew". NOTE: If no window pops up, go to the "Image" menu at the top of the program and choose "Stretch and Skew". In this Stretch and Skew window, you only want to touch the numbers in the "Stretch" box - change the Horizontal and Vertical percentage to be some lower number - but they MUST be the same. Examples: Horizontal: 66% Vertical: 66% Horizontal: 50% Vertical: 50% Horizontal: 75% Vertical: 75% Then click OK. This will reduce your image to to be whatever percentage you choose. Don't touch the Skew stuff, it's probably not anything you need to mess with. When you are happy with the size you've reduced the image to, go into the File menu again and choose "Save As" (if you choose the plain old "Save" option, you'll overwrite the old file, which is something you might not want). Save it somewhere safe as a different filename so you don't overwrite the original. Be sure to save the image as a JPEG (if possible). I don't think Bitmap/BMP images will show up on the forum! Sorry if any of this stuff is too dumbed down. I don't know what your experience level is. :) shifty 03-31-2005, 01:05 PM If you insist on having additional software, someone else will post about going to download IrfanView. http://www.irfanview.com/ It's free. It will help. But ... I always think it's best to learn how to use tools that come with every version of Windows just in case you get stuck somewhere you can't download and install something like IrfanView. bigarmzz 03-31-2005, 08:35 PM great directions! thanks! it worked just like you said it would ;) If you use any version of Microsoft Windows (95/98/M/200/XP), there is a nifty image editor that comes with it. Dave67 04-04-2005, 08:52 PM I tried the instructions in Paint, but it keeps saying the avatar is too big :whine: What % do I need to use? bigarmzz 04-04-2005, 11:46 PM I tried the instructions in Paint, but it keeps saying the avatar is too big :whine: What % do I need to use? i think i had to end up using 5% Rod 05-19-2005, 09:50 AM Here's a link to Microsoft XP plug in picture resizer..might help those looking to resize pics..it works kinda nice as you take a pic and it when its resized it labels it that way for you. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx Microsoft made this program for XP but didnt put it in. For those of you having trouble resizing for here this is the simplest resizer I have ever seen you can even do entire folders at 1 time. It will produce a resized image and leave the original intack it will be like truck.jpg and truck.jpg(small) both will be in your folder and you have 4 different sizes to choose from. small (fits 640x 480 screen) med (800x600 screen) large (1024x768 screen) hand held PC. (240x320 screen) Basically it adds a resizer option to your right click mouse button drop down menu...no need to open a seperate program to resize a pic. It's a small download..maybe 3 minutes on dial up service even. |
