I'm Phil and I've had my 67 Long fleet witha 350/350 combo for about three years, been absent from the board for a while due to other commitments and the truck being off the road for most of the last year. Hope to get her back running this year.

I live near Manchester in rainy old England.

Nice to see there is some of us on here, but i know there is some more guys.
Edmond from The Netherlands and I have seen one from Italy and one from Finland.
What about the trucks in Australia and England, are they RHD ord LHD?

Lippyp
04-24-2005, 12:58 PM
Mine is a california import and therefore LHD, I don't think they were ever sold officially in the Uk so I've not seen a RHD one. A friend of mine does have a 70 Mach One Mustang with RHD, was converted when new upon import in the UK, the RH exhaust manifold is a work of art in tube bending to clear all the linkages etc, was made by a previous owner who worked in the aeronautical industry from stainless steel and is a real thing of beauty! A lot of RHD conversions you do find in the UK are scarily bad, bicycle chains working the steering etc.

Chev trucks have been sold in Australia off and on by General Motors Holden.
And were right hand drive. Lots of converion kits here but no chain ones for chev trucks? It`s all done just like the factory only a mirror Image.

68 50th
04-25-2005, 03:22 PM
Any pics of an RHD truck with or without chain conversion kit.
Would be nice to see one.
Sweden went over to right side driving in 1967 but cars and trucks has always been LHD.

Lippyp
04-26-2005, 04:03 AM
I actually don't know of any RHD drive trucks here, the chain drive comment was more of a generic thing on American cars. All of the 67-71's I know here are US imports and LHD. I don't think they were ever sold officially in the UK by Chevrolet. I know they also have a lot of RHD American vehicles in South Africa.

Hello,

Great Topic Mats!!

I'm Edmond, and been a longtime member of the great board since January 2000.
I have a 1971 C/20 Longhorn which was repainted 2 years ago.
I have the truck since november 1999 and it is converted to run on Propane.
Would love to hear from more International members on this board .

If I'm not mistaken there are drawings in the Assembly manual for RHD.
Things like the window wipers are shown. I will have to look it up, and that's a though job since the manual hasn't got an index. :(

Nice to see that picture again, maybe next time it´s my turn to come and wisit you.
Taking a road trip to your country in the truck would be something, but I believe the gas prices would kill me.
My truck will soon arrive, just a couple more weeks.
Man, I´m really excited about that.
About the parts book you e-mailed my about, I would be very interested but don´t make yourself too much trouble to have a copy made.
By the way, I haven´t found a truck or van tilt yet for a reasonable price, only newer van tilts with ignition on the column.
The Osbyskroten have an old van tilt without ignition but they said it was in pretty bad shape and they want SEK 1500 plus shipping SEK 215 to my house for it. I think it´s possible to find something better.

Edmond
04-27-2005, 05:09 PM
Mats, you know that you are more than welcome to visit.
Would be great to go to some meetings in the Netherlands :)
But I guess your right, with these gas prices it would buy very expensive.
According to this site: Fuel Prices (http://www.iru.org/Services/Fuel/) we are on top with the price for a liter of gasoline.
So I know I will have to start saving now if I want to visit the 30th Power Big Meet
But I do hope you can come over some day.

I'll keep searching for a parts book and mail you a link if I do find one.
Don't worry about the steering colomn, I'm in no rush to change that.

Take care.

aussichev
05-01-2005, 08:25 AM
Fuel in W.A. is currently about $1.08 unleaded, $1.12 premium, $1.20 diesel & lpg $44cents wich is a total crock since it all (gas) comes from us i hear it`s cheaper in Sydney

Edmond

Fuel prices seem to be a worldwide problem. We in the Netherlands will have something else they (the goverment) want us to pay. They want us to pay for every driven kilometer, on top of the fuel price. And the goverment already receives 70% of the price on fuel. They want this starting in 2007/8.
Man I can get so angry just thinking about it.... :me2:

Paying extra for every driven kilometer on top of the gas price sounds really scarily. So far I haven´t heard of that here in Sweden but if it is coming in one EURO Country I bet it won’t take long before it is the same all over EURO.
It was like that with diesel cars before here in Sweden, I used to have a Mercedes diesel and it had an extra sealed meter that registered the kilometres and one had to punch special cards in the meter and send in to car tax department.
They quit that system about 10-15 years ago, I heard that the cost to administrate, control and keep the system running was higher than the kilometer tax income :but: so they put the tax direct on the diesel fuel instead. :whine:
When the system was running the diesel fuel price was about half the gas price and there was some tips and tricks around to "slow down" that meter.

k-20
05-02-2005, 04:27 AM
in southern tassie we are paying about $1.10 p/l for unleaded,$1.22 p/l for premium,and $0.62 p/l for lpg.diesel is about $1.25 p/l

Believe me Mats, it will happen. A few years ago they had a similar idea but they never had enough support in the goverment itself. Now, a few years later, someone else tries it again, with a different approach and all of a sudden there is enough support for the idea.

The government in the UK is also looking at this, with variable charges depending on the road and time of day, so to drive on a crowded commuter route at peak time could cost up to sterling £1.34 a mile down to £0.02/mile on some rural roads. This IMO will just result in people leaving the expensive routes and carving busy rat runs through quiet rural roads just forcing the traffic elsewhere on roads unsuited to it. We pay 80% of the cost of fuel to the government and also pay a large amount of annual road tax. The tax on fuel and annual road tax is supposed to be axed if this proposal happens. The idea is all cars will be fitted with a black box that will allow your car to be tracked by satellite, the scary thing about this is that they will then know exactly where everyone is and also can enforce speed limits with no police intervention, just plop, a fine through your letterbox.

Hello Ken,

Glad to see a neighbour here on the board.
Is the Camaro an aftermarket conversion?
The Camaro looks really good BTW.
I believe first year for 3; rd gen convertibles from factory were 87. I had an 89´IROC convertible before that I drove to Norway several times, I had a girlfriend there at that time, around 91-93.

Hi Mats,
Likewise - good to see a neighbour! :)
Yes, you are correct - the factory conversions by ASC were available from 87. Mine is a Choo Choo Customs dealer conversion, converted by the same parts as the 87 factory conversions. ASC was already doing conversions in 86 as well, but they were not yet in contract with GM for the so-called factory conversions.

I was in Ã…kersberga and looked at a 70 C20 for about 9-10 months ago, it was also sold new in Sweden and was used as a newspaper truck.
I wouldn´t be surprised if it is the same one, I post a pic of it here.

OK, Sågmyra, yes it is pretty close to me. I was there pretty recently and drove a buddy’s son and a girl to a school graduations event in my Camaro.

Would be nice to see you and your truck sometime.

So i must be lucky that you didn't buy it before me ;-)

Your truck looks much better, recent import?

I had a -79 Silverado many years ago, and it was one of the best cars iv'e had, i have really been missing a truck since i sold it.
But now i am a happy owner of a truck again. :)

I am considering going to:
Veidec Drag Festival in Mantorp
Classic Car Week in Rättvik
Wheels Nationals in Barkarby

I will probably have to skip something, but we might meet somewhere.

Hi Tomme,

I was around and looked at all 67-72 trucks for sale in a fair driving distance before I bought mine.
When I was and looked at your truck I have already decided to go to USA in January 2005 so I decided to wait and see what I could find there, that’s why I didn´t buy it.
I bought my truck in California in January this year and got it home in May.
It is in pretty good condition, it drives really good and has no rust but the paint is crap so I will probably repaint it the coming winter.

I will be going to Wheels Nationals in Barkarby but probably in the Camaro and I will also go to Classic Car Week in the truck.
There is a guy in Stockholm with a really beautiful 72 C20 that also will come to the Classic Car Week and drive by my house on his way there, don´t know yet which day of the week though.
I post a pic of his truck before he bought it and when it was for sale at Motorbörs-garaget next to Globen, Stockholm (it´s not him in the pic).I live about 25 kilometers before Rättvik by the R70, would be cool if we could drive there together all three of us.

I know the feeling to not having a truck when you have had one before.
I used to have a 1990 Silverado 2500 for several years and I too had that feeling it was best vehicle I´d ever have had.

A 502, I would imagine thats gonna shift! I've just got the go-ahead from the "Bank of Wife" to get mine sorted and back on the road, first stop a mini starter to sort out the hrrendous starter problems I have had, two new stainless exhausts from the boxes to just in front of the rear wheels and maybe a new inlet manifold and getting the HEI I have stashed in and set up. Oh and then an MoT!

I certainly hope it should shift after the money I've spent! I've not finished yet as there is a rollcage to fit and probably a nine inch ford axle. My contact in London is watching a '67 stepside that is rusting away in a front garden, it's a small back window one, would like to add it to the fleet but I think there may be some resistance from the beloved. She seems to think my '68, the 1979 F#rd F600, the rusting roof chopped '69 cab in the back garden and her '32 tudor are enough. You can never have enough.

Hi Phil and others,

I've had my 1963 GMC since May last year; it's very much a "rolling restoration", I've no intention of doing a total refurb. as it would destroy much of its character.

BTW, Phil, bought her from a guy in Whitchurch, Shropshire; just opposite the Midwway Truckstop, well worth a visit if you're down that way.

Just waiting for some panels to arrive from the US so I can get on and replace the rockers, fix the kick panel rust hole, reseal the rain gutter/roof seam, get my starter rebuilt and then make up two new exhaust sectionsa and then it's off for an MoT. Have also got a new interior to go in (carpets, dash pad and some ICE) an edelbrock performer EPS manifold, HEI dizzy, some period Mickey Thompson valve covers, new engine wiring loom and some other bits and pieces to do under the hood.

Its a holiday home we bought as a shell two years ago and are renovating slowly. We're off next wednesday for just over a week over the Easter break in my old diesel Isuzu Trooper, got a man coming in to finally install a staircase after two years of going up a ladder to bed. Can't afford the fuel to take the truck as it's a 900 mile drive each way. Quite a few of your countrymen with houses near me.

I have driven down the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans pre roundabout/chicane, sadly that was in an old Suzuki SJ410 1.0L 4x4 so not much racing was done! Monaco would be cool, not made it down that far yet even though I've been going to France since 1977.

This is my small slice of French bliss.

Nice place, Phil.

Got the GMC through its test OK this year; needed a repair to the right front fender where the bottom mount had corroded, fitted a pair of mirrors (off a 66 but hell, it's close enough, they were used and a bit rusty so matched the rest of the truck pretty well ;) ) and managed to convince the tester that I'd fix the faulty stop light soon as I got home! It does help that he's my neighbour's son!

I'll have to do much more for next year, though; I've used her through a West Wales winter, not recommended for rusty iron! Trouble is, I don't want to destroy the original patina of age, might not be pretty but it's sure as hell got character.

I know what you mean, I've ignored the rust on mine for a year or two but it's got to the point where the MoT man is going to pick up on it. So I may as well do it all properly as it's had one of the rockers repaired badly in the past with a home made patch. So reseal gutters to keep the water out, patch kick panel, replace outer rockers and patch one inner and derust, POR15 floor, squirt waxoyl into all the box sections and new rockers, new carpets, dash pad etc, all been stockpiled over the last three years as and when I've had the money, some came back in my case from a holiday in the states including a new carpet set!

Here's my rust:

Kickpanle, the hole is bigger now I've prodded it!

Rockers, don't look too bad but are prettu crusty, on the passenger side you can see the inner/edge of the floor has holed too.

I'm just trying to rent some workshop space as I need somewhere dry to do this.

Wow that looks cool Phil. Very nice place you've got there.
If we're ever in the neigbourhood...

You've got some bad rust there mate!! That's a lot of work.
I know how it feels, we had rust like that in the roof.
Good luck!!

Thanks, it's looking a lot better than it did and over the next year or so the whole outside will get repointed between all the stones with new lime mortar so it will look even better. I also need to make some railings for the terrace, have a new window to fit under the terrace, new stairs going in this trip, walls to build, a bathroom to install etc etc etc.

Compared to some of the pictures on here my rust seems like a minor problem. I's my first major body repair so it may take me a while.

12's pretty good, lets have some pictures of the new engine setup DJracer.

Howdy all, i'm glad to hear that their is so many Euro members. I am a Air Force brat and lived just out side Bitburg Germany, from 1977-1980 .
A good friend of mine in Bitburg hade a 1969 dodge powre wagon and a 1969 chevy C10 step side.Booth trucks were ex Air Force trucks that he bougth from a base auction back in 1978 he loved booth trucks and would never give them up. I guess people around the world know a good truck when they own and drive a chevy.

I'll have to e-mail them to you to post as I struggle with that stuff. Met another '67 owner thru' work two weeks ago. He has a small window stepside, ex USAF again. His is black too but been off the road for years. Neil.

:agree:
Once a Chevy, always a Chevy, you can't live without one.
