Where in Arkansas? Both the Ozarks and the Ouachita Mountains have lots of outdoors-related things to do....lots of lakes for fishing, the White River has awesome trout fishing, and you can always check out Eureka Springs or Hot Springs.

Hmmm. Little Rock. You can go out and hunt gang-bangers. When are you going? If you go on Father's day weekend, you can head up to Mount Petit Jean and hit the swap meet/car show. Acres & acres & acres & acres of everything under the sun you never knew you wanted. PLUS, almost every car/truck there is for sale!!!

I was about to suggest the same thing. I've never been, but hope to go this year. Copied this from the web site.

there's not much in LR but if you don't mind traveling about 50 miles north, south and west, not east, there's nothing east of LR.

In a little town, just 13 miles north of Searcy on AR HWY16, Called Pangburn there's the Pangburn bridge and it is one of the best spots on the Little Red river for Trout fishing. and about 20 miles west by SW there's DesArc and the White river is good for Catfishing. And about 20 more miles north of Searcy (searcy is my old Home town, born and raised I know all fo the hot spots.) there's Greeres Ferry lake, one of the best lakes in the USA.

Petti Jean Moutain is a good spot to go by all means.

If you play golf, there are a couple of nice courses you can play around LR. Cabot has 2 courses in the same location (Greystone). If you want to fish, take a day trip to Mountain View or Calico Rock for some of the best trout fishing around. There are a lot of festivals this time of year. Mountain View has the Folk Festival, Melbourne has Pioneer days, Conway has Toad Suck days, and LR has Riverfest.

Do a search on www.mapquest.com, for a town called murfreesboro (about 2 hours west of LR.) Just south of that town is Crater of Diamonds State Park. For a small fee, you can dig for diamonds where the largest diamond in North America was found near an ancient volcanic tube. In 1995, my 2nd X found a 1/2CT total weight diamond. Once cut and polished, she had herself a nice 1/4CT pendant made.

There is good rainbow and brown trout fishing this time of year up on the Little Red, White and Norfolk Rivers.

Your only a couple hours from Memphis, where Graceland and Beale Street is. The third largest Casino center in America is located just 20 minutes south of Memphis in Tunica Mississippi.

I'd suggest taking a loaded handgun with you while in LR. That is one of America's most dangerous cities. Car jackings are a daily thing, as well as strong armed robbery, gang shootings/violence/intimidation. DO NOT SPEED IN ARKANSAS, especially with out of state car tags (your a yankee there, and will be picked out of the croud!). The cops just love to nab out-of-state travelers. If you have Texas tags, expect to be pulled over and searched for drugs, because all the weed from Texas comes through LR. I'm sure you will experience true southern hospitality when it comes to being from the north.

Enjoy!

Little Rock ain't bad if you stay away from certain areas, basically between the airport & the river, black guy was shot down dead at a gas pump in broad daylight Wed, had lotta cash & a big gun on him also. The Cliton library is here but Little Rock don't have much else. I go to Petit Jean show/swap every year usually multiple times-Jun 14-18 this year I think. I know where some old junkyards are around Searcy but too hard to give directions to. Brian

well i only know of 2 around searcy and they are just off of 67/167 which is a straight shot from LR.

Take the 1st Searcy exit and hang a right and there they are one on the left and one straight accross the street from it on the right

there are others near kensett threre near searcy but again, i'd agree, too hard to get to unless you're a local.

Little Rock's got a rocking downtown. They have a street down by river that's got nothing but great bars and restaurants. I've been told there's now a shuttle train being built so you can part in North Little Rock and take the shuttle over to the riverfront area. Last time I went I was blown away at how alive it was vs when I lived there 6 years ago.
