ok ! Let me throw this one out and see if I get any responses. I have a 1971 pickup. And I have the complete engine/trans for a swap. The engine is a chevrolet LS-1 . and automatic trans. I have the factory wiring harness, which looks like a headache. And found one company that makes stand alone wiring harnesses, but the price is $850.00 then have to get the computer reworked which is another $ 300.00 GEE ! A lot of loot ! . I could say more, but not in the message board. The electrical is the only thing,Thats hitting me hard. Anyone got any ideas, input or ever done this swap ???? THANKS !!!

A member nicked Russell has done some of this, if I see him in chat, I'll refer him to this post. In the meantime, you're back to top. $1150 sounds a little steep.

I believe Russel has a TPI setup, a little different. But if you don't want to spend the money just get a FSM for whatever make and model your harness came out of and use the wiring\pinout diagrams to redo the harness yourself. You can also redo the computer yourself but the equipment to do it will cost more than the cost of having it done.

I've done some work on LS1 engines. One thing that I would take into consideration is that all of the sensors have a connector that fits up with them, so you can't really mix them up. Also they pretty much fall into place. You can also get a computer program called HPTuner for about $500 and do all of the computer stuff yourself (delete emission stuff you won't be using, disable vats, etc).

With all that being said, I'm in the middle of a TPI swap into my pickup, and I'm using a painless wiring harness, and it seems to be very easy. I got the engine out of a s-10 blazer that was swapped into it from a camaro, so the previous owner had boughten the painless wiring harness. If I were doing it from the original camaro, similar to your situation, I'd just modify the wiring harness myself.

Also, If you read on LS1tech.com, there is A LOT of information out there for you. They even have a hybrid forum.
