Does anyone know what may be causing these lines, started this afternoon. Is it my video card or monitor?

Hard to tell from your screen shot, but one way that might help is change your screen setting (likee fromm 800x600 to 640x480. See if the lines still appear in the same physical position. If they do, it could be the monitor. If they are still there but showing up in different positions, I would think something with your video. It could be your computer just updated the drivers froma windows update and it don't like it, or it may be going bad. One way for sure to tell is if you had a spare monitor setting around to try on it, or could borrow one for a shot test.

I can't tell anything from your screenshot. If you have a Sony CRT, or one that uses a sony tube, it will have two faint horizontal lines across the screen about 1/4 of the way down from the top and up from the bottom. These are easiest to see on a white background.

:agree:
slonaker is right - if they are two faint lines, it's usually the Aperture Grille which is part of the monitor.
If they show up in your screenshot when you zoom in on a section that has the line, then it's probably not normal.

thanks guys, the lines that show up seem to be where ever there are icons or writing. My ex suggested unistalling the video card driver then reinstalling it. But when I do that my computer automatically sees the driver and reinstalls it before I can do it manually and then gives me an error message. He also suggested pulling out the video card itself and putting it back in to see if that helped but its still doing the same thing.

Do you have a Dell monitor? We had a similar problem at work w/ lines like that and had to sent quite a few back for replacements.

Just go download the new driver. Unzip it to your computer. Go into your "Device Manager", find your video card (look under "Display adapters"), right-click the name of the device, click "Update driver" and point to the driver files wherever you unzipped them.
If you need more instructions than this, let me know.
