Don't know much about them, but I want one, at least 17", so what do you all suggest?

Wouldn't mind having a new computer also, so if anyone knows where the good buys are, I would appreciate it. I am going to price one locally, and if they are in the ballpark, I will go that way, simply for the service (they do have excellent service, etc.). Just thought I would ask since several of you guys are a lot more in to the technical side than I am. Thanks, LB.

WE just got a load of Samsung 17" at work and they appear to be pretty decent Barn. I have always like ViewSonic myself. I just got my daugther a Viewsonic Flat panel, (only 15" though). Good quality on it. I'll try and get the Samsung model numbers at work today, but I just saw the same ones at Office Depot 2 weeks ago when I was shopping for my daughter. so they are probably available locally. I think it was Office Depot, but the Viewsonic's I believe are on sale and have a decent rebate on them at the moment.

Barn, models we have at work are the Samsung 710's

Ther viewsonic's I looked at were the VA721 (no digital monitor in) or the VX710 (dig and analog input)

I can't believe the prices on flat panels these days! Absolutely dirt cheap. :metal:

Go Dell. I have a 19" Dell and a 20" Dell. The 20" model 2001FP is great for gaming and other uses. The resolution and quality is superb, the price is cheap.

I have a coupon for Dell Small Business right now - 30% off for specific flatpanels.

Newegg is an excellent online vendor. I can't recommend them enough.

I used to have lots of problems with NewEgg in the past, so I opted to use TCWO. NewEgg has really shaped up to be one of hte best vendors on the web in the past 2-3 years.

I also like shopping with MultiWave (mwave), ZipZoomFly, HyperMicro and a few others.

I have dealt with NewEgg before, and everything has always been great with them. I did buy a keyboard from them last year, and they sent me the wrong one (turned out to be a better one actually), and when I called they told me to keep it and they refunded my money. That made a believer out of me. Here are a couple pics of the new monitor.

I'll hafta take some pictures of mine when I get home.

All of the new Dell monitors come with both DVI and VGA inputs, and they also come with a USB hub so you can plug any USB device into them and use it with your computer (through the monitor!)

Rocks socks.

It's also got some weird "audio bar" that lets you plug a little speaker trip into the monitor. Lots of options. I'll show pics later.

This one has both inputs, and built-in speakers, but I already have much better speaker system hooked up, so didn't even try them. A USB hub would be a nice addition though.

Holy Cats, A year ago they were more than twice that price. I just might wait another year but those prices are pretty tempting. A year or so ago I remember thinking I might as well buy a whole new computer because the flat screens were around 500+ for a 19 in anyway.

Ok, this is either my Dell 20" or 19", I can never tell them apart. I think it's the 20.

The pictures: A fuzzy distance shot showing the monitor and base, one showing the USB ports on the side, one showing the hookups (it supports DVI, VGA, more USB ports, yellow video input, power and sound input for speakers, s-video also) and the last one shows how it pivots on axis to make cable hookup easier OR to let you use it upright if you want.

I paid around $450 for this 20" on special. I posted a similar deal in the forum last week. I got a 19" and 20" together for around $750 and it was worth every penny. The 20" is great for online gaming and is SO MUCH EASIER on my eyes. I can actually see clearly again now that I'm not using those damned CRT monitors at home and work. You wouldn't believe the difference $100 invested into an LCD makes.

My mother-in-law has the 17" version of that monitor. The picture is gorgeous. I like the USB hub because it is great for connecting a digital camera or a thumb drive.

I have not seen one up and running yet, but Costco has a 19" with analog and DVI on sale later this week for $280 after the coupon.

I was going to get one of the Samsung flats, but this Dell seriously blew my mind. I got the first 18" free and liked it so much I upgraded to a 19 and 20, gave my parents the 18" for xmas. They love it. We're all happy.

The USB hub works great at work for USB sticks/file transfers and for the iPod shuffle I got a couple months ago for being best man in a wedding.

At home, I just keep a USB cable on it at all times for the camera.
