FINALLY got DSL coming from Bellsouth. What do I need to worry about adding protection wise for my computer. Do I need a firewall and if so what. Currently running XP with AVG antivirus and MS free antispyware.

I'm stoked, finally getting off the freaking 24k connection!:D :metal:

I (and many others) use Zonealarm firewall, free download:

I would add a router, one gives you easy hookup for more than one computer, two most (least the Linksys) they have a built in Firewall and it is very effective. Other than the ADware stuff you already have, the Zone Alarm or Sygate Personal Firewall are both free and work very well. I've been using the Sygate more recently. It doesn't seem to bog down a system as much as the ZoneAlarm.

Oh yeah, Congrats on being able to join this century. You must be losing your hick status and turning into the big city. :D

I'm with Palf. Use a Linksys router or something and make sure you use the built-in firewall that comes with XP.

I work in the networking industry. Get a router. Its worth it. I have set up a few Linksys routers in the past and they are very easy and it will keep your dsl connection on for you. Holler if you need any help with it.
