ive come to the conclusion that i have got to increase the elecrtical system in my truck to accomodate the large draw.

it seems everyones got an opinion on this subject, but none come from experience. ive been chating about it with some various people at custom shops, hotrod shops, and dealerships. and i have heard a lot of different solutions. but i am looking for someone who has seriously beefed up there electrical system for huge stereos, multiple high amp air compressors, etc.

i would like to know EXACTLY what components were used, what extent does the upgrade need to go, what ABSOLUTELY needs to be upgraded, and how expensive it will be.

heres my situation:

the truck is an 88 CrewCab Dually. it is currently bagged and converted in the front. the bed is off and is going under the knife for a rearend swap, two link, baggin', and frame shortening very soon. its got a 7.4L 454cid TBI that is completely stock. ive got two Viair 380C compressors feeding a 13 gal. tank. after i wait for the compressors to fill the tank to 200 PSI (about 15min.) its pretty quick getting the front up and down. but once i get the rear bagged i want to have more air and quicker. as the air system is right now, when the compressors are on the power windows, door silinoids, and turn signals make the compressors sound like there less effective. and they actualy affect the ECM and the idle will go down.

so i cant stand it anymore and want to hit the turn signal and not hear the compressors go "EHHH ehhh EHHH ehhh" if anyone can help i can really use it right now. thanx in advance

I've beefed up my trucks wiring to power 3 stereo amplifiers. You will need more power than I did. You need a 100 amp alternator (IMO), and all your wiring to these compressors should be 100% independant. I.E. go from the battery to the compressors (with an in-line fuse), do NOT tap into the existing system. For the alternator, I would look for a pro rebuilder, or Jegs, or Summit.

shadetree: how many amps were you drawing at peak musical bursts? im pulling 34 consistantly JUST from the compressors.

anyone else?

My system would only draw about 15 amps rms, from the sound system (20 something was the highest "peak" I ever saw). I also have power windows, and a few other high amperage items. The 80 amp alternator I have seems to easily keep up with it all. I think you'll need a 100 amp alt because you will be listening to amplified music, and doing crazy things with the lights while you are jacking with the bags.
My truck has a voltmeter in the dash. I only occasionly use a digital amp meter on the system. Sorry I couldn't be more exact.
