I was just looking at some pics of the flood and had no idea how hard you guys got hit! (this is terrible) It looks like the Bow river and a lot of other areas took out a lot of homes. Does anyone know if SE Calgary around Blackfoot Trail & Glenmore Trail got nailed really bad (where the Bow river goes south)? My best buddy lives in this area (has his house & motorcycle shop on a few acres) and I need info, I might be doing a road trip. I'm going to try to call him but the phones are prolly out. Thanks, Doug (man I'm in shock right now, we lost 240 homes in 2 days here in Kelowna BC last summer to a wicked forrest fire)

Yeah, it is pretty bad down there. I may be loading up my industrial steam cleaner and my shop vac, and going to help out family and freinds later this week =/

Yea I've got a bad gut feeling about my buddies place, hes got a full machine shop, dyno and at least a half dozen sportbikes/dragbikes (customers) on any given day :( not to mention his house and contents. And the insurance companies may use the "act of god" card (not sure how thats gonna unfold) the premier (Klein) said something about a maximum of $100,000 to be paid out per person. Doug

Just got off the phone with my buddy and his place ok, he has been helping his neibours for the last few days pumping water out of their basements. Hopefully Alta. & Sask. get lots of sunny days in their forecast!

At least you and Dean didn't get flooded out! Glad to hear you guys built on top of a hill, or I'd be loading up the shop vac, and my industrial steam cleaner to come and clean your house up!

I was seeing pics from Drayton Valley on the news tonight -- Your town definitely got hit hard...

Since 1986; I'm surprised with the frequencey of devastating floods. Is the damage mostly small localized areas? I hope it's not like when Manitoba got flooded and it's so flat water is everywhere. Around Toronto we only had one significant flood in my parent's lifetime back in the mid-50's and that was remnants of Hurricane Hazel.

It happens becuase everyone builds on flood plains. If they were to move to higher ground, it wouldn't be such a big problem :)

In our neck of the woods The only flooding is where people built right beside the river

lve always wondered why folks built on floodplains without planning accordingly...lm orriginally from manitoba and let me tell ya,,theres nothing like a manitoba flood...quite honestly l belive alberta got off lucky......now what realy ticks me off is watching news about folks that were flooded out along the Bow...you know those million dollar type houses....well one idiots complaing he lost tv ect ect and art...you know those $$$pics that hang on the wall....how freaking lazy or stupid can you be..take pic off wall and move upstairs...think with a million dollar house he coulda afforded to have moved things,,,wasnt like he didnt have a warning...and he,ll claim all this crap and get the money just because he was to much of a idiot to act accordinly...honestly if you build in a flood plain and you dont make provisions for floods then thats yer prob...not mine................people,,,they simpley amaze me

I agree! If those homes are a million dollars then the builders could have afforded to put their homes on a raised foundation or stilts. The only people hear who lost homes in the 50's from Hurricane Hazel also had homes on floodplains.

disaster funds from province...belive they uped the max to 150k...know this fella will get his coin as he was a former mp or excec...cant remember which....just got realy ticked watching the news and thier interviewing them...l mean realy..how hard are expencive art pics to move...personaly l think they didnt care,,they just wanted to ugrade thier furniture and crappy art collection....they coulda easly hired some movers and a truck..espeacialy if you can afford a million dollar house...watchin news tonight and seen some folks that got nailed at the end of elbow drive...apt building l belive...l feel for these folks as you wouldnt have thought they would flood but they did...l drive by there every day and had a boo at it and belive with a retaining wall they woulda been fine..dont get me wrong l feel for the folks that lose in a flood..its just those that build on flood plains gotta pay the price sometimes....hada friend back in manitoba that lived on the whitemud river..it would useually flood in spring for a few days...they used to pull thier mobile home out when in threat and move back after..of course not all have that option....l just think there was enough warning and time for everyone to move personal belongings...think this coin coulda been spent better elsewhere instead of replaceing someones art because he was to lazy....srry all...just hits a sore spot with me :O(
