Other than sand or bead blasting, what is an effective, EASY way to get years of unsightliness off the frame and make it purdy?
I have been degreasing, sanding, and grinding then painting.....
Soak it in degreaser, then trailer it to the local car wash and put some real power behind it. Just don't wear any clothes that you might want to keep. Ask me how I know............;)  JB

Oven cleaner works good too.
Happened while I was power washing the grease off of the engine compartment of my 67. Had the drivetrain pulled and was spraying off the frame (worked pretty good, still needed some elbow grease in some spots) when I hit a corner and it decided to just cover me with water, degreaser and sludge. I had on a decent shirt, not my best (I'm not that dumb) but far from a work shirt (at least it was when I started). Needless to say, my wife fussed about me ruining another shirt, but the engine compartment looked great when I finished.:D ;) S I guess it was worth it. Later...............JB:bowtie: :flag:

man, sounds like your heading in the right direction. You may want to use a self etching primer before you paint. Other than that lots of elbow grease is all it takes.

On my frame, I used a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder with a few wire wheels and went to town. I knocked all the dirt and grease off of it and then coated it. Looks good and didn't take that long.

I will be back at it again when I get home tonight! I have sprayed rubberized undercoating under the cab.

Get a couple of different wirewheels for your grinder. One real soft one, and one thats coarse enough to knock off rust at least.
Dont think there is any real easy way to do this job, but that works. For the sludge a solvent gun works well but you'll use a lot of solvent.
Have fun man.

4 1/2 inch grinder with those sponge type sanding discs. They look like a real couse sponge but they work faster than a wire wheel. Just be carefull around anything that isn't smooth. Thats where the wire wheel comes in handy. I get me pads at Harbor Frieght or at welding shops:bowtie:
