It was a victim of a lightning strike (not direct, but close enough) a couple of weeks ago. Nothing happened when I pushed the on/off button so I replaced the power supply with a known good unit but to no avail...any ideas?

Do you have a surge protector with the computer.? I think the lightning fried your internals so now thats why it won't turn on.

Might be time to call the gods at Dell. Hopefully, you won't have to talk to somebody with a turban in a foreign country like I just had to with a call to SBC DSL Tech support. :m5:

:agree:
Surge suppressor only costs $5. It can save you thousands of dollars. Even spending $30 on an APC battery backup/surge unit for $30 can be worth itself 100x over.
Get something with both phone line and power line protection. Lightning can enter your computer via either one.
I would guess if you weren't using one or you didn't have both phone line surge and power surge protection, that your motherboard is smoked. If you can look on the back of the system and find the Service Tag (a series of numbers and letters like... 12GRZ6ZZ or something similar) I can look up your warranty status to see if you're covered by Dell.
If you're comfortable with it, I typed a half-ass hardware troubleshooting tutorial. Here it is:

I don't know if that will help, but it's a great place to start if you don't have a clue what the hell to do next, I'd guess.
Let me know if I can help at all. I'm back in town (was on vacation in the mountains of Vermont the past week)
