i have a gallon of gray enamel primer and was wondering if it would be alright to mix a little black with it to make it darker also would it be alright to leave it on the truck and drive it like that or will water go thru the primer and rust the metal

What primer is it? Manufacturer and type. Epoxy (2 part) will work better than most other primers but will fade with exposure to UV. Best to put a finish coat on over the primer...they are just not designed to withstand the elements.

You can typically tint a primer as long as you use the color is compatable (use enamel to tint enamel..use laquer to tint laquer, etc..).

Short of paint to keep out moisture....ONLY an epoxy primer will protect enough.
