Hi there, my 94 chevy has chrome bed rail caps on it, and a chrome tailgate cap on it. The only problem is that the tailgate cap is dented all to hell, and I would like to remove it. I went to take it off last night, thinking that the 5 screws I could see were the only thing holding it on. Turns out that theres also double sided foam tape holding it on. I left in on in fear that the tape wouldn't come with it. My question is if theres any easy way of removing this tape that doesn't require repainting the tailgate.
how dare you damn the best company with the most innovative products in the world. get some wire and run it behing the molding then use a Eraser Wheel on a drill to remove the tape. i'm sure a bodyshop will take it off for you for a few hundred bucks

I would pull off what you can with the trim. Then use a plastic scrapper that won't scratch the paint to get most of the rest. Then last something on the order of 3M adhesive remover or goo gone(be sure to try on a hidden paint surface first).

take a strong piece of fishing line put it under the edge a pull it down under the trim pull with a sawing action down the trim piece to remove the trim //local autoboby supplier will have a spray to remove whats left without damage to the paint you will need to buff the spot after getting the tape residue off

Let me say "amen" to jostrans' comment. With any of the other suggestions you may scratch or gouge the surface.
^^^^^^^^no. i've debadged hundreds of vehicles for detailing/bodyshop purposes and i do it the same everytime, whether its getting painted or not. if you keep pressure on the wire/line it wont ever touch the paint.
