Palf70Step 11-06-2005, 08:18 AM My mother-in-laws homemade rolls. I can make a meal just out of them. Don't care what else there is, as long as there are the rolls. :D
68 Stepside 11-06-2005, 09:06 AM I'll be home alone for Thanksgiving this year, for the first time in 25 years, so I'm planning on cooking myself a never-frozen free range turkey, some sweet potatoes, real mashed potatoes (with half and half as opposed to 2%), and I'm going to attempt to bake a sweet potato pie if I can find any sweet potatos. If I can't find any, I suppose I'll try to bake a pumpkin pie (next best thing). I had thoughts of smoking the turkey, but I'm a novice at smoking meats, I don't wanna foul up (nice pun huh?) a good turkey.
Stocker 11-06-2005, 09:39 AM Traditional - turkey (fallin' off the bone tender), stuffing, mashed potatos, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls, corn, pumpkin pie.......
papawswrench 11-06-2005, 10:22 AM All the trimmings - don't care about the turkey .
This year we will be at my Mother-in-law's and the next day will be her 80th B'day . She is cajun , so there will be some boudin and gumbo . I gaurantee !
jakeslim 11-06-2005, 10:32 AM Smoked turkey WITH the stuffing inside(also smoked). Ever had smoked stuffing?

Same here. Probably have one smoked, and one deep fried.
Appetizers-
Deviled eggs, raw dressing, glazed pecans, sugar cookies
Meal-
Turkey with dressing, mashed taters, corn, yams, cranberry sauce, rolls
Drinks-iced tea, or cold milk.
Desert-
Pies- chocolate, pumpkin, lemon marange, coconut
Cookies- Sugar, oatmeal, chocolate chip
That's all the normal stuff. If Aunts or cousins drop by they will bring something too....:metal:
jhwkns 11-06-2005, 11:27 AM Another vote for smoked turkey..
dwaite72lnghrn 11-06-2005, 12:27 PM One year the stove was on the fritz so we had T-Bones on the grill and nuked veggies. Pretty good. Another year all of the kids were doing their own thing on thanksgiving day so Jeanne and I had Ribeyes on the grill baked potatos and veggies. A nice change. Later that weekend we had traditional dinner.

goose19726 11-07-2005, 07:36 AM i like turkey that isn't as dry as jerky so instead of stuffing it with bread i use bell peppers onions and sometimes sliced apples and oranges the fruits and veggies cook into the turkey and it retains moisture
phlegm 11-07-2005, 08:18 AM Note to self: NEVER EVER eat at Phlegm's house.

phantom dually 11-09-2005, 09:53 PM Man my mother in law makes the best Turkey. We get everything ready and she times the Turkey to make it the last thing done. FRESH!!! Mashed Potato's and some fresh rolls!!! Damn Im fat!!
jimfulco 11-10-2005, 02:41 AM Store-bought turkey these days seems to be almost a non-food item. The taste and texture just ain't what it used to be. Mom cooks meatballs & spaghetti from the old family recipe every Thanksgiving & Christmas, and the whole family much prefers it.
68gmcdually 11-18-2005, 08:02 PM I usually miss Thanksgiving dinner as that is the day we travel home from Hershey PA after the swap meet. So to make up for it my mom has it the next day and my mother-in-law has it a couple of weeks later so it is all good. It is nice having Thanksgiving in early October up here that way it spaces it out so that you don't go into Turkey overload by Christmas. :canada:
