Not at all truck related, but there are a bunch of you from Oregon and Wash State, got to be some loggers here.

I just got pretty lucky in a chainsaw accident. Only 8 stiches ot my knee!

:whine: So needless to say I have been looking into a pair of chainsaw chaps, any feedback on what works best for a backyard user. Big price range out there, any to stay away from? Just want to be safe.

I know Stihl makes them, I imagine they're pretty pricey, but well worth it.

I just took the toe off of my shoe the other day with a double bladed ax. The toe (on my foot) is still there, but I now AC in my right shoe. I know better, but I went to visit my in-laws and my wife's 85 year old grandmother was low on split wood. She has anywhere from 3-5 drunk sons that live with her (or crash there when they get loaded), but none of then can split wood! I went out and split about 2 cords of wood and towards the end the ax was getting heavy and then WHAM!! Well, I was done splitting wood, so I went and had a beer to reflect on how lucky I was to still have the little piggy that went to market!!

I may be too late for your purchase decision, but here goes.

The kevlar ones are the absolute best. I used to work for an insurance company that insured loggers. When the kevlar chaps came out it was amazing how much better they were. I used to demo them to the logging crews by strapping one on a log and having the sawman hit it with the chainsaw at full speed. It shreds and jams the saw bar (sometimes pi$$ing off the sawman ;) ) but they also observed that the chain *never* cut through the layers of kevlar (same as used on many bullet proof vests and butcher's gloves)...that was true even afetr I had demo'd the chaps many times.

They aren't cheap but I'd rather walk normal the rest of my life. Sorry about your knee; hope it's healing okay!

I have a pair of Husqvarna chaps and they are great. I never really thought about it much until last summer when I was dropping logs for firewood and the bugs were awful. Well I went to swat at some bugs and the chain bar came over and touched my leg on the thigh. A little nick in the chaps that I sure would of hurt like hell on my leg.

Buy chaps, legs aren't cheap!
