I need to go to DMV and they want a second location for the VIN. I have no idea where it is on the frame. I've checked on the frame(pass and drive) in engine compartment. PLEASE HELP ASAP. I gotta go today:confused:

Why is the DMV asking you? They should have a book of some type that has the locations of the vin stampings. If they don't the cops should as they use the vin stampings in cases of stolen cars that had the vin plates swapped.

I don't remember for sure but I thought I was told it was stamped on the TOP of the left (drivers) side frame rail. I thought it was under the body though so it's almost impossible to see. Need a dentist mirror to see it at least.

Well I am registering it in CA(trying to) after bringing it back from NJ. They will not register it back to CA unless they can find TWO Vin # locations.
Here is the kicker....the k5 is a CA truck as was registered here before I took it to NJ....idiots. Its in there system!!!

This subject came up recently in the 73-87 forum. It never was confirmed but take a look here-More info (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=177073&highlight=frame)

Well the number below the door on the frame is not a Vin#. I've cleaned the whole frame in the engine compartment to find nothing. At this point, its gotta be under the cab. I'll let the CHP(Ponch and John) find it since its their rule that
DMV find two:lol: . DMV is not at fault. Problem is the CHP has a back log till January, so DMV gave me an extension till end of Jan.
:drama:

It should be on top of the framerail under the seat area (or flat part) if you can't find it anywhere else.

I have found the vin number in differnent locations, on the passenger side top frame flange. From the front to the center of the frame.

This one (77 K5 frame) is at the engine cross member.

thanks Truckstuff. I gotta date with the California Highway patrol in Jan. Its their law that the DMV needs two vin#'s. So I'll let them have fun with it. I'll let
them know the info provided here so they can be sure.

The funny thing is that I'm bringing the truck from one state into CA, but it was registerd most of its life in CA already before leaving state for a few years....so this is just RED TAPE!
