View Full Version : What's your flavor of bourbon?
MylilBowTie 12-23-2005, 08:44 AM Just like the title says what's your flavor of bourbon? I haven't really had a lot of different bourbons. But there some cheaper ones like Evan Williams and then the normal stuff like Jim Beam and Knob Creek. Most usually with coke, pepsi if there isn't any coke.
Think the next one to try will be Makers Mark.
My favorite is probably Jim Beam although Makers Mark wasn't too bad either. I'm pretty much out of my drinking days (8 years in the Navy probably drank enough to do me from now on ).
bowtier 12-23-2005, 08:53 AM Wild Turkey 101....neat.:metal: :alky: :tim:
lilred67 12-23-2005, 09:02 AM crown royal.........over ice!(coke and sprite messes it up.)
Strictly Gravy 12-23-2005, 10:51 AM Beam and sprite or coke.
My boss, my assistant, and my superintendent each got me a handle of Beam! oh yeah.
jsbgump 12-23-2005, 10:52 AM Crown and coke
boraxman 12-23-2005, 11:01 AM I would have to go with the Crown crowd. Just got a bottle of special reserve for my B-day:metal:
Dick Dale 12-23-2005, 11:08 AM Makers Mark. They even have a good steak sauce.
gr8scott51 12-23-2005, 11:12 AM I'm a Knob Creek guy, on the rocks, with a good cigar.
l1n1b1 12-23-2005, 11:21 AM Defintely Crown & 7.....Although I did have some 10 yr old Canadian Club that was quite respectable.....
shifty 12-23-2005, 11:26 AM I drink my bourbon straight up normally. I only mix it with coke if it's crap. A good bourbon can stand on its own any time - add a splash of water and the flavor of it jumps out at you and it takes the edge off.
I like Wild Turkey for an all around good drink any time - 101, not the rare breed, rare breed is too much.
I enjoy Elijah Craig, Knob Creek or Woodford Reserve or maybe even Maker's Mark when hanging out with friends or at parties.
I have tried a lot of other stuff like Blanton's (expensive as hell) and it just really doesn't do it for me.
I drink a lot of Bourbon and a lot of Tequila. I don't bother with anything else. I can talk about either all day long :D
67sub 12-23-2005, 11:56 AM Knob Creek is first choice, Makers Mark is okay. Got a bottle of Crown from a vendor for christmas so I'm making do with it right now lol.
LONGHAIR 12-23-2005, 02:07 PM As far as Whiskey, I'm more of a Tennessee sour mash type. George Dickel or Jack Daniels..........But I'm with shifty, give me Tequila anytime, the good stuff, not that gasoline that most people think of when you say Tequila.
79BIG10 12-23-2005, 02:16 PM I like Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. I also like Crown Royal. But I can't afford it all the time so I get Canadian Hunter. It's got a taste like Crown much much cheaper price. :D
BrianJordan 12-23-2005, 03:28 PM my drink of choise is Captin Morgen & coke.
when it comes to wiskey, their is onley one for me,Old Bushmills Irish Wiskey.
chipflyer 12-23-2005, 03:34 PM Crown with a little ice and everything will be nice! :gi:
71-longbed 12-23-2005, 04:08 PM I've had Bushmills, Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Brokers, Makers Mark and Overholt rye ....
Wild Turkey is excellant .....
But my favorite whisky for the money is MacNaughton Canadian Whisky
Jimbotronics 12-23-2005, 06:00 PM Crown on the rocks or Beem-n-coke. I also drink alot of R&R, it's pretty smooth and not as pricey as Crown.
texascowboy593 12-23-2005, 06:03 PM If you can find it, try Eagle Rare...Its 101proof and soo smooth. Next thing you know it hits you like a freight train...
pritch 12-23-2005, 06:10 PM I'm a whiskey drinker. I don't care for bourbon so much. I drink Canadian blended. Crown Royal mostly. Can't stand American blended. I'd rather drink a bourbon than an American blended. I'd even drink a Scotch before a C/C or Seagrams 7.
PanelDeland 12-23-2005, 06:41 PM Jack(Black label only) or Crown,I did go thru a phase when I had regular talks with the Lord(Calvert). By far the best is the Eagle Rare that Texascowboy spoke of, it just is(rare that is) Not available everywhere.
pissonNOS 12-23-2005, 07:57 PM so bourbon is the same as whiskey? around here only the rubbys drink bourbon no offence to anyone im just saying that we sell stuff that says bourbon on the bottle we usually call crown royal Whiskey not bourbon

No bourbon is not the same as Whiskey and
JACK DANIELS is a whiskey!!!!!
Which happens to be my drink of choice(Jack and Coke)
As for a bourbon it would be Wild Turkey. Gobble Gobble!!
pissonNOS 12-23-2005, 08:07 PM jakc daniels is corn whiskey is it not? I prefer the malt stuff my self but i LOVE sourjacks tho
shifty 12-23-2005, 08:38 PM i was just going to call everyone out on that one. crown royal is nice, but it's whiskey. jack daniels is whiskey. bourbon and whiskey are not the same thing technically.

GM72K10 12-23-2005, 10:12 PM Jack Daniels, Jack and ginger. Merry Christmas!
Jimbotronics 12-23-2005, 10:35 PM If my 'ol pal was internet savy he'd say:
Rye Whiskey rye whiskey I cry
If the Ocean was rye whiskey and I was duck
I'd dive to tha bottom and drink my way up
But the ocean is not rye whiskey and I'm not a duck
I guess I'll drink my rye whiskey straight from a cup....
rollinlow 12-23-2005, 11:05 PM jack followed with a shot of absolute
55chevy 12-24-2005, 12:00 AM Cheap whiskey and Diet Mt Dew usually, having a few right now, Heaven Hill Kentucky Blended Whiskey, when we want a sipping whiskey we go for Crown Royal if we have the extra bucks, a lil cheaper substitute that's good straight is Canadian Mist (funny, they spell it Whisky, no E, have a 1.75 Litre also). Lately the wife has been havin shots of good ole Jose Cuervo, shaken (chilled) real well, pretty smooth actually but it makes a forgettable evening go fogure LOL.
70blowngmc 12-24-2005, 05:29 AM jack
MylilBowTie 12-24-2005, 05:43 AM Check this out http://www.straightbourbon.com/history.html
Long read but pretty interesting I think.
special-K 12-24-2005, 07:07 AM Wild Turkey on the rocks. If I drink Coke,I like it with Jim Beam in it.
LONGHAIR 12-24-2005, 07:14 AM Bourbon is Whiskey. It is just slightly different from the "other" whiskeys.
Whiskey is a corn based alcohol. Differnet types have varying amounts of other grains mixed in. Bourbon is Kentucky whiskey, named for the county of it's origin. Bourbon is a lower percentage of corn than Tenessee (sour mash). Tennessee whiskeys are similar but slightly different, probably based on regional differences at the time of the original distiller's recipe. They have a required minimum of corn which is higher than Bourbon.
Most of the European (Scotch,Irish, etc) are distilled from Barley and are distilled multiple times, where as American whiskeys are only done once.
I'd still rather have Tequilla.................:metal:
Nolowrider 12-24-2005, 11:01 AM I don't do very much drinking anymore, but occassionally I like a Jack/coke or Jim Beam/coke. Crown is good, if someone else buys it.
pritch 12-24-2005, 11:13 AM I got a book around here somewhere that explains all this. My wife works in a Utah State liquor store and they sent her to a 'product knowlage course'-not that she really needed it-but it goes into great detail about why some is spelled whiskey and some is whisky, differnces between all the various types, why Canadian blended is the nector of the gods and American blended tastes like horse pi$$ (even though Seagrams pretty much makes it all). I see if she knows where it is.
Opper77 12-24-2005, 02:01 PM Gibsons Finest Rare w/Coke or Ginger....damn good. Gibsons Gold and Gibsons Silver are also good.
Rare is expensive but definitely worth it though.
78chevstepside 12-24-2005, 03:57 PM wild turkey favorite bourbon. lifes to short to drink cheap booze,
Blue Beard 12-24-2005, 08:55 PM Wild Turkey 101 on the rocks for over 20 years.
But for those who can obtain it, try the Wild Turkey Liquor. Doesn't get put out too often but it is smooth.
75-K5 12-25-2005, 12:08 AM Have any of you guys ever heard of Very Old Barton? My Dad absolutely loves the stuff, but we can't find it anywhere around here. We used to buy it in Georgia but since we don't get down that way anymore his stash is starting to run out. I was hoping to buy him a bottle for Christmas but could never find any. It's pretty good but not smooth enouh for my liking. My personal favorite is Knob Creek.
jgrh64 12-25-2005, 11:59 AM when younger "uncle jack black" Jack Daniels Black label
longhorn70gmc 12-26-2005, 11:00 PM :metal:

3100 special 12-27-2005, 11:23 PM A whisky made by a fellow in Alice, Texas that I've never met. Several years ago I had the privledge of tasting some that a friend of mine had brought back. It was made by a High School buddy of his from years back. Fairly clear colored, full bodied and THE smoothest whisky I've ever tasted in my life. I sipped a jigger for roughly 20 minutes. It was so good I couldn't bring myself to just down it. For my showing of respect for the elixer, I was rewarded with one more shot.
Frickin' amazing stuff. Those two shots lit me like a Christmas tree. And as you would expect, it was in a clear Mason jar.
Other than that, I learn towards Canadian lines. I still enjoy several American versions.
It's usually only special occasions now days. I tend to get a bit stupid once I start drinking.
Hey, ya'll watch this!
71-longbed 12-28-2005, 12:31 AM Thanks longhair .. nice to clear that up ....
btw ....old crow is nasty if you ask me
Dont forget Yukon Jack!!! ....the canadians will love this comment
Luvlegs 12-28-2005, 07:59 AM Jim Beam Black - the smoothest (judged by 25+ years of sampling) - I usually am forced to down a bot or two on the docks each weekend.... used to think the next day was just paying dues - I buy the better stuff (Beam Black) and get up the next day to do it over again. As for the Tequilla - I got tired of waking up lost in a town I didn't know and not being able to find my pants!
LONGHAIR 12-28-2005, 06:38 PM I got tired of waking up lost in a town I didn't know and not being able to find my pants!
I'm not really seeing the problem here.................
grayw0lf 12-28-2005, 07:02 PM Jack Daniels Old #7 for sipping.
Evan Williams green label for bourbon & coke.
82 Silverado 4X 12-28-2005, 07:03 PM If drinking at the firehall, I'll do anything cheap with Coke only because they don't stock Crown. At home or when I'm out, it's Crown on Ice.

mister honey 12-28-2005, 07:35 PM My favorite bourbon is the one from my brother in law's basement bar!
