HDD cooler is novel idea, but unnecessary if your case has a fan in the front of it that will blow over the hard drive. Most respectable cases will do so (Examples: Lian Li, Antec, Coolermaster, Thermaltake).
The setup you're laying out above is modest but better than most systems you'll buy at the store. That motherboard got excellent reviews last year. Just understand that the
Tigerdirect is a sh*$%ty place to buy parts from IMHO. Go with Newegg.com - better/comparable prices, better service, excellent "combo" deals where you get a percentage off by combining certain products together.
Also - why are you choosing the fx 5500 Geforce card instead of the 6600 GT or greater? I believe the 6600 GT is a better card or if you can get a "BFG" card, that's your best bet. All BFG cards are workhorses and gauranteed for life.
PS - the 754 pin AMD 64 chip only supports single channel RAM, the 939 and 940 support dual. This may or may not be of importance to you. Is there a specific reason you chose the 754 instead of the 939? Both will probably be obsolete next year ... and Dual core w/DDR2 support will be the big thing by Q2-Q3 of next year.

PS - some things you don't have listed...
Have you thought about cases? Would you like some suggestions? You really get what you pay for with cases....Don't skimp. I spent $200 on mine for my current rig and it's a freakin beauty. It came with no power supply :D I coulda bought three cheap cases for the same price, but I don't like generic plastic pieces of crap. Why build nice guts and make it look like ass on the outside, right? ;)
Have you thought about your power supply yet? You need something that is certified to be used with that 754 AMD 64 CPU. I suggest using an Antec brand power supply, get something at least a 400W.
Have you thought about the CDROM, DVD Burner or floppy? For the DVD Burner, I suggest the NEC 3540 or 3540A CD/DVD burner. It's a killer drive, I've had great success with them and they burn quick as hell - I can do a full CD in like 90 seconds or copy a full DVD in 5mins or so. For the floppy, a regular old Teac drive will do. They're inexpensive - you may never use it.
Cooling - do you know what heatsink and fan combo you will use to cool your CPU? Does the one you're buying come with a heasink+fan already? Most retail box chips come with something, so .. before you just buy OEM, consider the retail box. Most stock cooling options are good unless you plan on overclocking.
Cables ... are you going to get "rounded" data cables for the floppy, CDROM and hard drives?
As for your hard drive .. why in the heck are you getting a IDE ATA-100 drive? Get a serial ATA drive - specifically, pay close attention to which SATA drive you're getting - there is regular SATA (1.5Gb/sec transfer) and SATA II (3.0Gb/sec). I would get the latter of the two. SATA is so much nicer and the cables are so much smaller and easier to use!
Will your hard drives be SATA or IDE?

PSS - 66 degrees is hot! 55-60 is the max temp you want your hardware to run at. Anything higher than that is dangerous. Make sure you have your fans correctly set up in a push-push configuration (one group pushing air in, one pushing air out).

I bought this video card - Notice there is a combo deal - you buy that card @ $350 and you get a free motherboard with it. eVGA is a great company, I know a few people who have bought this component system and that is a suhweet video card .... so you could spend $150-200 on a 5500 Geforce and $100 on a motherboard...or you can spend $350 on the best of the best video cards and get a free motherboard. It's your choice.
Combine this with the 3700+ AMD 64 939 chip with the San Diego core (90nm) and you have a killer, killer machine that will push out numbers in the 3000's using 3dMark '06s benchmark test.

Truckdude239, I got to agree with Shifty on the Video Card. Get a 6600Gt at least and make sure your 500 Watt P Supply is a quality peice. I have removed a couple cheap 500 watt PSupplies that I replaced with Antec's 430 Truepower's to eliminate some problems I was having.

Hey Shifty, Sweet MB Video Card Combo. Let me know how it runs when you get it all together.

How it runs?
It's smokin!
With no tweaks using the new 3dmark '06, this is what I got:
3dmark: 5540
SM2.0: 2940
HDR: 2860
CPU Score: 949
- XP SP2 installed in less than 10 minutes, not sure if this is b/c of the RAID 0 SATA II drives or faster CPU?
- XP boots in no time flat! Literally, the splash/loading screen shows for less than 2 seconds, it took about 5 before.
- My entire system had the following max temperatures running 3dmark and using nothing but the cooling supplies my case came with and the Artic Cooling "Freezer 64 Pro" CPU cooler combo:
CPU: max 35ºC
GPU1: max 44ºC
GPU2: max 39ºC
Case temp: 24ºC

Very nice for an Athlon 64 3700. I've been shopping Newegg but haven't decided if I want to put the strain on my credit card just yet. Rebuilding my truck and Christmas put a big dent in my budget. If my income tax return is big enough I might go for it then.

I got home furniture to buy as well. I've been selling a lot of my xtra crap around the house to get a few dollars here and there to buy truck parts. It's really hard to balance all the little things I like to dork around with ....
