Just discovered the forum a short time ago and am very impressed. There is no shortage of knowledge and information, and everyone seems very quick to try and help out.

I am about to start my new project, a '72 Cheyenne. It is a nice driver right now, with all original sheet metal (no rust or patch panels), air, tilt, etc. Bought it here on the Island from a guy who's dad was the original owner (in California). It has definitely been babied all of it's life, I was lucky to find it ( I stopped the guy on the street and asked if he would sell, just happened to catch him at the right time). It is a longbox and I will be converting to a short fleet. I just purchased a nice original shortbox from California, and have a '69 GMC short step (base 6 cylinder, completely rusted out) which will donate the frame. Everything will be transferred over to this frame and the new box installed. Probably will post the longbed and frame for sale here (both real nice) once I have them off. It will have a completely stock body with full trim and stock interior, nice paint, airbags, 18's and 20's, small block, overdrive tranny, etc. I am looking forward to using the forum throughout the project, there are so many ideas and solutions here.

I have always wanted to build one of these trucks, my dad and grandfather bought new matching '71 Custom Deluxes, and that's what I learned to drive on. I have some experience ('68 Chevelle, '67 Nova, '66 Vette, '66 TVR, '72 Vette) with projects, but never with these trucks, so I have plenty of questions.

Yeah, I had fun stuck out it the woods.:D We didn't get to town but once and that only for a day. I did get to spend several fun (and alcohol) filled days in Victoria.:D

Glad to welcome another BC member. I lived in Ladysmith back in the 70's. Hated the ferries. Up in Grand Forks now.

Bluerocket, I have driven through Grand Forks many times on the way to Castlegar, in fact I bought my '69 GMC in Kaslo. There was a body shop on the way out of town that had several '67-72 pickups parked outside, I never did stop for a look. They still there?

who did u buy the 69 from in kaslo? The body shop in town has shut down. The owner wiped out his chevelle and got behind on some payments. There is (was) only one body shop in town.

The body shop I meant was on the way out of Grand Forks, I have driven by it tons of times, guess I wasn't to clear in my first message, sorry about that.

I can't remember the guys name in Kaslo, I would have to look it up, he had a piece of property that was loaded with dead vehicles, some pretty cool, and had placed an ad in the Castlegar paper for the GMC. I basically bought it for the frame, suspension, glass, that kind of thing, the sheet metal is pretty bad. I will take some pics of both my trucks and post them in the near future.

The guys property is on the way into town, bear left off the highway and go up the hill, I think there is a community hall or some kind of building like that on the corner, I was only there once. If you said his name I would remember it.

sounds like herbys place. there is another guy denie but i would never figure him to place a add or even THINK about selling any of his vehicles. So im pretty sure it was herby.

There was a lwb at that bodyshop on the east side of town. Belonged to one of the guys that works there, looked good from 50 feet but needed a lot of rust repair, a local guy bought it and has it stored for a future project while he works on his BB chevelle. The same friend that is doing bodywork on my pickup is doing the chevelle for him. In these small towns all the gearheads know about all the other projects!

N2TRUX, I have admired your Cheyenne for some time before I was on the forum, can't remember where I first saw it, but stock body, black, lowered with 20's is as good as it gets. My '72 will follow the same theme. So, is your avatar the new powerplant?

Regarding the stepside, the box is the worst part, it is real rough. My plan was to toss most of it and keep what may be salvagable for patch panels or something. I will be posting some pics of both trucks this week, and you can see how rough the '69 is. It has a clean frame, nice trailing arms, glass, etc., definitely some usable stuff, but poor sheet metal.

Keep that truck away from the salt spray up there...LOL! We love going to Vancouver Island. I can't wait to drive my Longhorn up there for a camping vacation. We do a trip up there every year...Welcome to the board.
