When you guys shoot b/c and are waiting for the paint to flash, what do you do with the gun?
Do you clean it between coats?
Or do you just open a beer?:)
I'm getting closer to putting on the finish stuff, and I'm as nervous as a whore in church.
Thanks

i usually bring a magazine in to scan while waiting between flash times or i'm pacing and critiquing. i don't take that mask off for any reason or open the doors to the booth until i am finished shooting and the finish is "tacked" enough for nothing to stick to it. i rarely have time to read cuz between coats, i'm checking everything and mixing/cleaning before next coat........................, and nervous as 2 whores in church. then i throw down a couple of stiff ones and take a deep breath :D :D

That's what I mean. Are you cleaning the gun? If the paint starts to harden up on the truck, doesn't it do the same thing in the paint gun?
Planning on bringing some magazines in with me. But I don't read - I just look at the pictures. Got one issue with a pictorial of 2 whores in church.:)
Thanks

No, its not hardening in the gun. The color needs time and exposure to air to begin to flash. Just don't leave catalyzed clear in you gun for more than the pot life.

Yeah, what he said. You only have to clean the gun when you go from the paint to the clear, or change colors (like if you're doing graphics), and of course when the job is finished.

i usually pull the cap, clean it, and clean the end of the needle. ya never know what may have gotten past the strainer and is waitng to fly out @ the next pull of the trigger. no matter how many times i shoot one, i'm as nervous as hell. don't let my paranoia rub off on you, i just hate rework.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I clean the needle (especially when shooting primer). Primer has a tendency to clogg the nozzle.

When I'm shooting my paint here's what I do. After I'm done shooting the base, I'll pour out any remaining base into the paint bucket in which i mixed it. If you use a gravity feed gun, turn the gun upside down over the bucket with the lid off, pull the trigger. This will drain any remaining liquid in the gun. I go grab my trusty laquer thinner, pour some in the cup, say about 1/4 full, swish it around in a circular motion, then dump it. Then, if you still have some color remaining, do it once more. After all the visible color is gone I put just a little more thinner in the gun and reconnect to my airline and pull the trigger. This will help clean off the needle and fluid tip. Let your base flash for 30 mins, then mix up some clear. When I'm done with whatever I'm painting I take my gun apart and clean everything, but between the base and clear it isnt that critical. That is to say unless you're doing multiple colors, then you want ALL of the previous color gone!
