I have been looking around on the internet and it appears to pop up only in posts that involve the new Spyaxe, which is what another member recently got and it basically has his computer at the point that I would format and reinstall.

Try fixing that line using HJT. Reboot. Scan again to make sure it's gone. See if it fixes your problem.

I would save HijackThis to its own dedicated program folder before doing this fix or you will not be able to restore from backup.

Good news - the files gone, I never had problem with pop-up though.

Bad news- still won't bring up the site.

Try this - so we can see if it's isolated to something in your profile. In the control panel, go into the Users section. Create a new user. Login as that user and try to hit the site. See if it works for that person. Try it with both IE and Firefox since I believe you said you have both installed.

I know this might sound scary, but try turning off the URL monitor and everything else related to Norton Internet Security. I suggest turning on your Windows Firewall before doing this - you can do this by going into the Control Panel and double-clicking the Windows Firewall icon.

My general logic is this - we know it's not profile specific or browser specific, so this rules out corrupt/bad cookies, profile corruption, most spyware/malware applications (with the exception of some trojans that can make themselves completely invisible) and HJT does not show a problem with Winsocks/LSPs, so ... the only other logical answer in my eyes is that some piece of software on your computer (or your ISP) is blocking you from visiting these sites in question - or the admin of that site has banned you from going to them and accomplishing what you want ;)

I've had lots of stupid problems with Symantec/Norton "protective" products in the past so I am really skeptical here and believe it would be the problem...

You might also look through NIS's configuration to make sure that site is not listed in some "bad" list somewhere.

I'm thinking it's time to do a complete clean and sweep of my system and start over with it.

I'm thinking the server the sites hosted on is not allowing me on for one reason or another cause i can get on every other site i use even the ones with heavy secruity.

edit:comcast says they change Ip out every 6-7 days. This start friday. I'll give it till the weekend. Any other ideas are welcome.

I suppose it's possible someone is using blacklists to push people out or maybe something is misrouted on the webhost side. It's not unheard of. The fact other people are dealign with it would be one indicator. I would try someone else using the same ISP as you's computer and give it a shot I suppose.

Say someone was stupidly running a program like Peer Gaurdian (or similar) on one of the hosting machines - this would wreak hell...or even if someone hacked and/or edited the Apache config (the hosting software config - assumign it ran Apache) and blocked entire netblocks out that way - any number of things are possible.

Have you been able to access the site from any other place? If so, can you try a few places and try to see a pattern?

I'm able to get on the site through my brothers Powerbook G4 which runs through the same network as my desktop.

Ok, that makes no sense, then. It can't be some kind of block on their end, you'd probably show to the server as coming from the same IP address.

Is it possible that maybe the site was added to a "restricted" sites list or something? In the Control Panel, double-click Internet Options. Click the Security tab. There are four icons in there, I would check all of the settings on them - possibly set to default on all of them. Look at the list of trusted/restricted sites as well. You might try resetting all of the web settings to default also (second tab from the end, click the reset button) and on the very last tab, click the Restore Defaults...then reboot and try again? I'm really clutching at straws here ...

Here, try this - we want to open a DOS prompt and issue some commands. I don't know if you know what a "ping" is, so ... I'm going to explain it.

Click on the Start menu and choose "Run". Type cmd.exe into the box and click OK. This should open a DOS prompt.

In the DOS prompt (blinking cursor), type ping websitename.com (replace websitename.com with the actual website name) and see if all four packets are transmitted.

Let me know, I'm really curious.
