Hello I know this may be a dumb question. I just got a 68 Burban. I was trying to find out do I have to add lead to the gas or can I just run unleaded with out it messing up the inline 6. I ask because one of my Co-workers told me that I did and another told me that I didn't. Thank you for the help and your time.

Well I have a 70 with 6 banger and been running it with unleaded, hhhmm,I was thinking that earlier 6 bangers needed regular(leaded),good question.Guess I don't know either.Any body else have a clue.

We've run a '64 235 on unleaded for 30 years, no issues. If a '64 doesn't need it then a 68 shouldn't.

I run unleaded in all my classics. Yeah, the exhaust seats may wear out faster, but by that time, I probably need new heads anyway.

I never buy additive. If it starts smoking,do the headwork with the money you didn`t spend on additive everytime you fill up.

What year did they quit putting lead in gas engines? The "70 has been running on regular none leaded gas for as long as there has been no lead it the fuel. No problems.

The last year it was sold at the pump was in 1986.You can still by 117 octane race fuel from sunoco, that has lead in it,it is $17.00 a gallon! Here is an article on leaded gas .....http://yosemite.epa.gov/r10/AIRPAGE.NSF/0/adebd4b8879d36bc88256c0800760bf5?OpenDocument

I think I would pass on the $17.00 a gallon. The way things are going regular will be at that in the near future.:( But hope not.

i know a guy that runs a 250 inline 6 all the time at high rpms on 87 octane unleaded and has no problem. do yourself a favor and put an hei distributor in it, you'll get better milage and performance and you should be able to score one for about $40.00 at a salvage yard or ebay. good luck
