Not exactly a computer question but I figure this topic fits here better than any other place on the board. Does any Mfg make a compact digital camera that takes images in the correct aspect ratio to produce 4x6 prints without cropping? All I have been able to find so far is Digital SLR cameras but those are too bulky. . .Is there some technical limitation to the compact cameras doing this?
Thanks

You got me on that one. I can make suggestions on what to buy all day long, most printers or computer programs can resize and print at whatever size you want ... that's about all I know ... :\

This (http://www.smugmug.com/prints/4xd-prints) is what I was referring to. I have no problem resizing via software but that just reduces size and does not change the aspect ratio. As far as I know that cannot be changed as it it camera dependant.

Adope Photoshop and a few other applications allow you to change the print size. I've never worried about the cameras I use. I have a Canon Powershod SD400 and a G3 right now, I really want an EOS Rebel XT...but yeah - on point, I've never bothered with it. You can resize and save to any size you want. Likewise, I believe most photo labs can take your CD or SD card and print out to any size you like....

Well, I just got photoshop CS2 today and will look into this. I have a couple of older Sony cams and a Canon SD500 & S70 right now--however, like you, I also want the XT. I'll post back with my success/failure.
Thanks a bunch.

When you're in Photoshop, choose Image>Size (Canvas size? It's not on this computer, so I can't say) then use the dropdowns to change the canvas size in inches instead of pixels or whatever...

Would you mind pm'ing me your email addy so I can send you a pic. If you would be so kind as to resize it the way you are talking about so that I can compare it to mine.
Thanks a bunch.

Does it really have anything to do with the camera? I always thought it was the software that determined print size and aspect ratio. I use the HP Photo Smart Software that came with my HP Printer. It allows you to select 18 different combination of prints from the menu. I think at least 4 of them will print 4"x6" photos from any digital photos that you have. I have a cheap Fujifilm MX-1200 (1.3 Mega Pixel) and my daughter has a newer Kodak Easyshare C330 (4.0 Mega Pixel). I'm no photography expert so I can't really tell the difference of the quality of the prints we get from either camera. We've even framed some of the 8"x10" Prints from our vacations that I took with my cheapo Fuji because they printed out so nice.

it's really not the camera. It's literally the software you use.

PS - in fact, if you are using XP, if you right-click the file on your computer, choose "preview", then click the print button, it will literally ask you exactly what size you want to print it at and show you examples, then print.

You often don't need special software if you're using the latest copy of Windows XP - just another great reason to upgrade!
