Why does my 97 vortec have a throw away timing cover? The stupid thing is plastic and can't be re-installed....why the heck did they do that? I didn't even realize it until I went to get the front seal from my gasket kit...there isn't one...or a timing cover gasket. Wonder how much this is gonna cost me.

It is not going to be any more expensive than trying to drive it without one. The General blew it on that one, didn't he.

Sure looks like it. Too bad I bought one from the dealer the other day. 60 bucks...better not leak. idiots.......or geniuses. I have to give them $60 for a cover now; not a quarter for a paper gasket. Good for them I guess.
