okay i got my new mother board today it has a 8x agp slot on it for a gaphics card i got a buddy that has loaned me memory till mine comes in but my question is will my 2x apg nvidia tnt2 ghapics card work in the 8 x slot? my memory and grapics card not due to come in for another 2 weeks

I don't think it will even plug into the slot. If I remember right, the 8X AGP may support a 4x, but not earlier.

There is a difference in the notch location on a 2x/4x video card versus a 4x/8x video card. I believe they also run at a diff't voltage (one is 2.5v and the other is something else).

Chances are it will not work. I generally keep a cheapy PCI-based video card laying around for troubleshooting and moments of impantience like the one you're describing :) You can get these things cheap at places like Compuvest.com - just look at the clearance section, should be able to score PCI vid cards for under $15.
