My frined has a 65 long bed that he wants to make into a 65 shortbed. He found a bed and frame but the frame is bent.
Now I have come across two 62's one short one long. it is a pkg deal so if he does this he must buy both.
Issues: 62 long bed has best cab of bunch. 62 short bed is best frame and front sheet metal, his 65 has a V8 and the short Wide bed.
I just read that the 62 vs 65 frames are different...? What if anything would keep him from making the 62 short bed into a wide bed using his parts...
He just purchased 3K worth of suspension parts for the 65 too. Will they work on the 62 frame?
Thanks,
Need to know fast as he might need to pull trigger on the 62's this weekend.

go to www.mar-k.com for info on swapping the bed.they cover swapping a short stepside bed, should be the same.NONE of the 65 suspension parts will fit the 62,except maybe the rear springs.a 62 has torsion bars up front.

Cut down the long 65 frame and use the 62 short bed.

Your buddy could use the '62 swb frame under his truck, BUT the cab mounts will need to be modified some.
He can also use the front suspension off of his truck on the '62 frame, but he wil have to remove he whole torsion suspesnion as a whole unit. Then 4 holes will need to be drilled into the frame, and the IFS saddle off of his truck will bolt right into the '62 frame.

I agree with Chevyboy62.Doesn`t your buddy just want to keepit a`62 and put the`65 suspension under it since he has the money into parts?Or,is he real partial to the`65 styling.

Thaks for the advice to all. We are going to take a second look at the trucks Thrusday. He is now thinking about making a short bed from the 62's as the deal is that good (price wise). Then he thinks he can sell the short bed or perhaps trade to somone he knows that is a painter.
He is partial to the 65 cab over the 62 cab but the 62 cab The deal is good he just needs to decide exactly what he wants to do.
So if it sounds like the front suspension can be swapped over then it might be someting he would be interested in doing. Unfortunatly he would rather have a wide bed and it sounds like the 65 bed will not fit the 62 w/out modifications also.
I'll update when I know something.
Thanks again,
Thomas

I could be mistaken, but can't the whole 63+ suspension (crossmember & all) be swapped into the 60-62 frame? It seems like a strong possibility, as you can do a fair bit of swapping within the 60-72 era trucks.
My buddy but a '60 cab on a '72 frame and it was nearly a bolt-on. pic (http://u2slow.gotdns.org:81/60k30/Cltw000003.jpg)

I dont know... Which is why I had asked the question. I think that with the torsion front suspension the rear frame is different? Wider? Dont know exactly. But I thought that I either read or was told the only items he may be able to use from his new 65 suspension he purchased was the rear springs.
With this said, he will look at trucks in tomorrow and decide if he wants them or not. As far as putting in the front suspesion/crossmember from the 65, I have heard it was possible as the frames up front were the same width.
Perhaps it is above in an earlier post. Also I thought with the supposedly wider rear of the frame the mounting points for the beds would not align on the cab and bed. If i am mistaken Id like to know.
I'd like to know so I can let him know all his options as soon as he either buys or passes
If he passes Ill post photos and try to help the guy sell it on this site.

Well, My friend purchased the 62's yesterday and I helped him take one home. They are pretty solid and it looks liek he got a pretty good deal. His plans are now to swap cabs on the two trucks maknig the short bed the better of the two. Then sell the 62 LB. This makes the second friend of mine I have now talked into having more than one project truck. He plans on keeping his 65 project truck.
So this means I now have two friends with wives that are not very happy with me right now.
OH well!!!
