How short do you cut the door hinge pins?
Should they be flush to the bottom of the hinge, or should they hang down - how far?

Yeh. The replacements are long. Read a few posts about guys cutting their's. Don't know what length.
Like I said - picky, picky.

don't cut em unless they hit or obstruct something.........or you just don't like the look, but they should protrude about 3/8" thru the hinge.
