I have replaced the instrument cluster and the fuel gauge stills goes to the right. Some have suggested that a ground is an issue. So where is the ground for the fuel gauge. I have no manual to repair this problem. ::

Unless it's really full. Jim Longhorn Man 02-03-2006, 08:19 PM Slide the seat forward all the way, look down to the tank back there, you'll see a brown wire hooked up to it. (If not, you found the problem) follow that wire to the fuse box.... a punch in the gut says it is corroded and/or broke in two under the chrome strip (thresh hold?) by the door. rsp1971 02-04-2006, 11:38 PM I have removed the brown wire and tried to jump it with a new wire still no response with the gauge. budbeater 02-05-2006, 12:14 AM I have the opposite problem. My gauge goes to the left (empty) and this isn't a bad mileage issue. I have replaced the sender and the problem remains. When I remove the wire to the sender (brown wire mentioned in the previous posts) the gauge pegs to the right. I am believeing that rsp1971's problem is a bad ground from the tank to the cab or cab to frame. Try running a wire directly from the tank (bare metal) to the frame (also bare metal) and you should see some gauge movement if a ground is the problem. What would be the opposite of that? Am I getting an errant current from somewhere else? I am having dash light issues when I turn on the headlights, but the gas gauge is an all the time issue. Budbeater tcoop68 02-05-2006, 01:16 AM Have you took out your gauge panel from dash and looked at the contact board that sends electricity troughout your light and gauges I have seen breaks in the flat copper.I would give that a try.You can replace that.Good luck. rsp1971 02-07-2006, 10:01 PM The sending unit grounds to the tank whitch is grounded by the attaching bolts. Jim i jump the sending unit with a new wire no response from gage. while i had the wire connected i took another wire grounded it to the body. now the gage goes back to emptywhats wrong J Y Dog 02-08-2006, 12:29 AM If you can ground the wire going to the sending unit and the guage goes to empty, the guage is most likly ok. Use a test light to insure the tank is in fact grounded,as well as the sending unit. If they are the sending unit is the problem. Jim |
