Hello guys i got my bed front cap off and running gear out i was wondering about the cabs weight what is the best way to lift it can it be jacked up and frame rolled out from under it :hmm: :gi: or do i stick an oxygen tank under it and blow it off these things can be a pain but thats what makes it worth it:ho:

I went to the local "rental" yard and got a "camper lift"...just a glorified "A' frame put one on each sode cranked it up ,after puting two 2x4 under the cab rolled the frame out ,set the cab in a box with wheels under it and put it away till I could get to it...simple!!!

I went with the brute force method.....me, my two brothers, and brother-in-law (4 guys total) were able to lift it without too much trouble. I you do this be sure to wear heavy gloves as the weight combined with the sheet metal edges can rally tear up your hands. I put mine on a set of wheel dollies so I could move it around if needed. I like SIR's "camper lift" method. Here's an "action" shot of me lifting the cab! :sumo:

No joke here, my wife and I moved mine from the original frame to the C5 frame by hand in our two-car garage. That's with it completely gutted and 90% of the floor cur out. We were able to do it in baby steps. I have to provide those details because no one ever believes me when I just say "My wife and I moved it."

Pretty impressive that your wife helped you lift your cab! Mine looked on with her sisters and made all sorts of not so helpful peanut gallery comments. :lol: She's great but when it comes to truck stuff it's a struggle to get her to help me bleed brakes. We've had a couple of ugly brake bleeding incidents.

Wives are cool! My wife helped me do a bed swap (LWB fleet) just the two of us in the dirt with no jacking equipment. She also hepled me swap out the rear differential (the whole thing - drum-to-drum) on my '66 C20. That just about wore us out for a week, but we gott-er-done! She's a good hand and a whole lot better to look at than my motor-head buddies. (no offense guys)

She's a good brake bleeder, she's helped me stab an engine or two, and when I used to do Kitchen remodels and she would help me build cabinets, when I was an electician, she would occasionally help me pull wire. All that while raising 5 kids. I should give her a raise!

...my sweet wife "crushed" her index finger on her left hand while "jockeying" a complete front end around (72) so she could finish cleaning it with a pressure washer!!..how's that!!

I've used planks & landscape ties crossways under the cab. Usually supported on blocks or sawhorses on each side.

I've also used old-school ('brophy') camper jacks to load and unload a cab for transport.

For scrapping, I can teeter/roll/walk an empty cab around(by myself). Get 2 long planks, and a couple of 3' pieces of pipe, lay the cab on its backside, and roll it up into the back of the truck.

when i removed a few cabs already 1st time i took straps , hooked them on the rockers and used 2 come-alongs amd winched up the cab. the 2nd time i did it i took a 5' pirce of a 2x6, now i did have the windows out, and balanced the cab on the end of my engine lift till it was high enough to roll it away from the frame and used the same methods to install the cabs back on the frame

My wife is also helpful around the shop. She knows her way around a toolbox as well as any man...but that has a down side also, when its finished she wants to drive it FIRST!!! :)

my wife broke her finger when she was swapping out her own 456 gears.so much for saving money and having her do it herself cause it cost me 8oo for a wedding ring repair. u just gota pickem right!

Thats fricken hillarious! I had the VERY same experience! But I have to add...
"Ok, press the brake down SLOWLY"

SQUIRT!!!... brake fluid in the face and mouth

"dammit... I said SLOWLY" *numb mouth/lips

note to self: brake fluid rebounds off of suspension components very well. So just cuz your face isnt in front of the bleeder valve doesnt meant it cant get you. Especially if the wrong person is behind the pedal! HAHA
