i have used a binks model #7 for the last 25 yrs., and technology and everything i read says that hvlp is better..........until i read some of these 4 posts. in a previous post cali-surfer said that "if you're a beginner use the model #7", okay i'm not a beginner and i must confess that i've only tried a hvlp devilbiss finishline once and i was not impressed. what then is the benefit if you must deal with more likelhood of orange peel and more chance of runs and sags ?????, the only tradeoff i see is low overspray, and using less paint, but at what cost to the finish results. i'm really in a pickle cuz i have read a zillion testimonials about the turbine hvlp systems and was as good as sold until i posted for opinion on this board and most shot the turbine system down, then i was sold on the finish line or the millenium devilbiss hvlp's until another board member asked why his shooting turned to s#$t over a model #7 knock-off????? what gives, any logical advise will be greatly appreciated.:( :(

I don't care much for Devilbiss. I use a Sharpe HVLP, they aren't cheap but I've never had any problems. Also have 2 Binks model 18's that work just as good, I use them for primer.

hey randy, what sharpe would you reccommend and why. i have 2 devilbiss conventional siphon feed guns and have never used them,..why, cuz they're not binks and i understand the model#7.
my brother-in-law owns a tank painting company and he is always bringing me a new gun to try, but they don't use hvlp guns. used a german gun called a "higenberger" thats set up for a paint pot. nice gun but costs around 2500.00 a piece and rather bulky/heavy.
still would like input on conventional vs hvlp's HELP???????:(

The big difference is that you don't get as much overspray with HVLP, so you use less paint, because less paint goes into the air. The controls are basically the same on all guns.
My HVLP is a Sharpe model 975.

Sorry, the guns I use I've had for a while, and they work great, so I haven't really looked at what's out there lately.

The gun you want to buy is the Sharpe Platinum. It's the $hit!! I'm not impressed with my Finishline either, but at the time when I was in the market it was all I could afford. But HVLP is where its at. On my flame job I just did, with my Finishline I used only about a quart, maybe a tad less, in clear on my hood and two fenders. And I put on two WET coats.
