I was at my "Add/Remove Programs" section checking out another program for possible delete, and noticed the following JAVA listings:
J2SE Runtime Environ. 5.0 update 2 117MB
J2SE Runtime Environ. 5.0 update 4 118MB
J2SE Runtime Environ. 5.0 update 6 119MB
Java2 Runtime Env. SEv1.4.2_06 108MB
Is all this necessary? I'm really not sure what it all is, but it sure is using some space. Appreciate any help or bits of wisdom concerning JAVA,
thanks again,
LB

Barn, it's not bad stuff . Lot of your web pages use Java language to create and run funtions on the page. Without those Java patches, the pages may not load or work properly.

Thanks Bill, I figured it was probably needed, it just seemed like a lot of space used. The size of the files is what caught my attention, and I just wondered if there was any duplication that might be done away with.

Barn, I don't think it adds up to over 400 meg. I do believe alot of the files overwrite the older updates. Like everything else in the windows/computer world the files grow with each change. But there are certain files from each version that need to remain depending on what version the sight used for the web pages. I know for sure the 1.4.2 is the oddball that has to remain. Lot of sites written with that code, won't work with the newer codes.

I would not touch it as previously mentioned. This is all related to Java...and if those are individual updates, it's prolly better you got em on there. Java needs to be kept up-to-date to prevent people from exploiting your computer while you're out and about browsing on the web.
