okay i did the wire switch in the plug from the gmc pauls faq what i dont understand is where do i hook the black and white stripe wire gmc pauls said to the voltage reg. or to 12red on the alt i have changed the. alt. wiring to internally regulated alternator as per the faq. that part is fine and maybe im just not getting it why does it need 2-4 amp fuses inline and if im reading the directions right brown blackstripe wire does this wire have to be made also any help greatly app.todd

I'm totaly confused. I cannot understand the question. Can you please re-state the question? Please start with what area you working on (I.E. wiring up an external voltage regulator), proceed to the exact item you need help with (I.E. black and white wire). thanks

Those wires go to the amp gauge. The amp gauge is a shunt type of gauge, meaning it can read current based on a resistance (so to speak), the full amount of current is not required to pass thru the gauge.
One wire, black w/wht stripe goes to the connection point or junction block from the alternator. From there you should also run apprx a 10ft-10ga wire to the battery. This will allow the alt to charge the battery. From the factory there is another little junction block next to the battery, this is were the brown w/blk stripe would go just before it gets to the battery POS terminal. Both of these wires need 4amp slowblow fuse because they are a direct connection to the battery basically, if something bad was to happen and they arent fused, your harness could catch fire. I dont know if you can follow my description, a picture would be 1000% easier to understand, just dont have a pict to upload for this.

when you say one wire does this mean for a 1 wire alternator mine has internal reg. it has 2 wires on the plug with a jumper to the post on back of alt. what i need to know is which one of those do i connect the black white stripe wire to the red brown or on the backpost thanks todd

If you still need it here is a pic that shows the ammeter wires and fuses

Connects to the big red post on the alternator -or- to the junction point where the alternator splits to the battery/truck harness. The other side to the junction block by the battery. This is where there should be the 10 foot or apprx length of 10gauge wire. The amp meter will read the charge based on this length of wire. Because it has a very low resistance which the amp meter can read to detect a charge or discharge state.
