View Full Version : CST vs STD
makovai 03-02-2006, 11:15 AM Brand new noob here. This is my first 72 body style. I had a 1973 blazer for years.
My rig is a 1972 CST. I'm still trying to figure out what the differences are between the CST and the STD.
I've kinda figure out a few like:
Double wall bed.
CST emblem:rolleyes:
Is there a list somewhere that tells me all the differences?
My rig can be seen at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2180334/1
bouncytruck 03-02-2006, 11:25 AM CST is a trim level. It will have the CST badges on the doors below the windows and lower side moldings with wood grain. It may have woodgrain on the dash cluster too. Most, but not all, CST's have AC. Chrome bumpers should be standard on a CST too. I'm not sure if the upholstry had a different pattern or not.

To the best of my knowledge, I would tend to stay away from STD's.
Sorry. Had to do it.
teamradrz1 03-02-2006, 11:35 AM The CST option also had the scroll interior vs standard and the Blazer interior bed side panels which are hard to find.

Most CST's came with carpet, nicer seats with scroll pattern that matches door pannels and rear side pannels, automatic trans, tach, AC, Tilt, PB, PS, standard options, exterior lower trim, basicly the cow boys caddy. The standard ones may have rubber floor mats, basic seats no tilt, tach, AC, 307V8 and 3 speed, ect. Basicly you would have bought the CST becasue you wanted it full of the nicer factory options.
Jason915 03-02-2006, 11:40 AM here is an example of a standard one

Damn....huge difference. So its mostly just interior from what I'm getting.
Mine only has the CST emblem on the driver door, so i'm assuming the passenger door has been replaced with a standard door.
Medicanman71 03-02-2006, 02:10 PM I'd take a CST over an STD any day! ;)
Mine is probably one of the most bare bones CST's there is. NO a/c, etc etc..
bouncytruck 03-02-2006, 02:32 PM My first K5 was a bare-bones CST too. '72 with no AC, Tilt or tach. My current, non-CST Blazer has more options since it has AC.
Medicanman71 03-02-2006, 02:43 PM Yea when i got the blazer my jr year in highschool way back when, i didnt understand the CST. Obviously mine doesnt have any extras. I thought it was a good thing mine was CST, cuz maybe trucks that werent didnt come with some things like a steering wheel and wheels and seats etc...? ;)
special-K 03-02-2006, 03:20 PM Automatic transmission was an option. The windshield trim and chrome vent windows came on the CST,too. Two seats up front and one in back came with CST as well as a top.:)
vtblazer 03-02-2006, 05:25 PM 4wd's had a chrome t-case shifter too.
A double walled bed was standard on all blazers.
Welcome to the board.
LUV2XCLR8 03-02-2006, 07:21 PM :welcome2: From West 10-UH-C, I signed your guestbook also :hi2:
pound41 03-02-2006, 07:55 PM Back in 72 my father got a new SWB stepside with a big block, 3 of his friends got blazers and a few more got LWB. They were all ordered. I can remember going and looking at several of the dealers. They all had limited trucks.
I have a cst that has alot of options. A CST with no air or PS. Owned a 72 STD with a 307 But swing away carrier/AC Tilt/Tach.
special-K 03-02-2006, 08:44 PM 4wd's had a chrome t-case shifter too.
You jump started my mind. The dash knobs have the bright trim in the center.Huh?Huh?Am I right?Huh?
bouncytruck 03-02-2006, 10:08 PM What about the window crank knobs? Don't they have a chrome cap in the center too?
makovai 03-02-2006, 10:20 PM So can i tell from this if its was originally a custom?

Tynee 03-02-2006, 11:22 PM Ummm, if you could read it, yeah. lol I'm just kidding. Welcome to the Board!!! Your option sheet there (which is a NICE long list, BTW) should mention the CST package. Perhaps the door with the badge is the later replacement.

Yep, I think so.
CST = Custom Sport Truck package was installed in 72,609 trucks/blazers on 1971 and 142,645 in 1972.
Here's a paragraph right out of the 'Red Book' from the facts section at the end of 1967 trucks.
[QUOTE]
The CST option consisted of a chrome front bumper, a chrome grill, brightmetal window moldings, and a full length brightmetal molding that ran along the trucks side, following the curve of both wheel arches.
In the interior, the CST option included additional bright trim on the dash and doors, bright pedal trim, a full width vinyl seat, carpeting, a door operated door light, and a cigar lighter.
On the exterior, a CST emblem appeared on both doors. The CST option was available only on trucks with the Fleetside type box.
Only 12,588 trucks were so equipped.
That answer's it...:cong:
special-K 03-03-2006, 08:41 AM Makoval, that is an impressive list of options. Also,an exellent example of how a lower level model can actually be better equipped than a so called "fancier" truck. It doesn`t appear to be a CST by the option list.Yet`anything that came on a CST that could be ordered is on yours. The things to check for sure(since the lists have been known to be inaccurate) ,assuming all is unchanged from original, would be the seat upholstery for scroll embossing, chrome wing-vent frame/channel,stainless w/s trim in weatherstrip, rubber mat, rear interior panels...for a start.IMHO,it`s cooler to have a vehicle that was spec`d-out like yours, than an off-the-lot CST.Nice truck.
Oh,and on the STDs they forgot the rubber.

I cleared the picture up....... Can you tell if mine is a CST?
pound41 03-03-2006, 05:32 PM I don't think so. You would see Custom Sport Truck listed on option sheet or if its a 72 Cheyenne replaced custom
Medicanman71 03-03-2006, 05:59 PM I have the old scrolling on my door panels, i tore the ones in back out long ago cuz they were REAL ****ty.... i should take pics of the white ones (After i clean them up ;) )
special-K 03-04-2006, 09:35 AM See #20
FRENCHBLUE72 03-04-2006, 09:38 AM Did anyone notice he has the super rare black top and not a white one these to the best of my knowledge were very rare and hard to find??? Looks like you have a very nice blazer and welcome to the board from southern oregon..
