My buddy was doing work on his project truck this weekend. He was dealing with some exhaust issues. Also needed to replace his alternator. Any way he pulled his old alt out and being A.D.D. he went to do the exhaust work. When finished with the exhaust he promptly fired the truck up and ran it for quite a while. He went in the house, etc. He said the truck was not running when he came out:rolleyes: Well he ran the damn thing without putting the new alternator in!!! Now it will not start.
He said he turns the key on and gets nothing, no gauges no nothing. He swapped in a known good battery and still had nothing. He said the battery that was RUNNING the truck was showing 12.53 volts on his multi.
Could he have fried is ignition switch, fusible links somewhere or what? Seeing as I have never been in this situation before I am of little help.

probably blew a fusible link somewhere possibly at the starter solenoid or at a power junction block, shouldnt of damaged anything electrical just by having the alternater off unless the loose wiring from the alternater shorted to ground.

I was thinking fusible links or ignition switch. If he did short the alt wiring what would that burn up?

well the main wire at the rear of the alternater should blow a fusible link, the plug in connector probably wouldnt of shorted to ground very easily.
there is several fusible links at the starter solenoid should probably start there pull on them if they give any or stretch they are probably burnt into and need replaced.
