Hey guys,

it's been a long time since I posted here. I have a n 88 chevy with the 5.7 l 350. I just got a rebuild put in, and they replaced the oil pressure sending unit. my question is. what is normal oil pressure on the guage supposed to be. right now while driving i get around 60 psi. which is as far as the gauge goes

also I am getting a flashcode from my brake light on the dashboard. it does 8 short flashes and 1 long one. my truck did this before the engine swap. but it still does it. any idea what it means?

I can't help you with the brakes, but I can with the oil.

I did a rebuild on the 82 that I use to own. It had the 5.7L bored 60 over. My oil pressure at start up would be almost 80 according to the gauge. This is running Valvoline 10W 30. Once it warmed up, cruising would be around 40 and idle would be around 20.

On my 93 that has the 454 in it, I am seeing around 65 cold (running Valvoline 10W 30) and about 40 cruising (drops to about 20 cruising when pulling trailer) and idle is around 10 or so.

On my 93, I dislike that low of pressure at an idle, but I am not too concerned about it. It's not in the red part of the gauge yet.

What is the chance that the rebuild included a high pressure or high volume oil pump? I have one in my 383 stroker motor and the pressure stays at the top of the gauge unless the motor is off. My 91 Silverado runs like "rockman 20" said the gauge goes up on a cold start (with 10W 30 Trop Artic) and then drops to around 35 cruising with the 20 at an idle. This appears to be an inherent thing for the 5.7/electric oil press gauge setup. I am working on putting a L-98 Vette motor in the 91 with a TPI setup and I will see what the oill pressure change is after that, I am betting that the problem is really the gauge setup, not the motor.
