Who has this front end? Do any of you run the manual rack and is it easy to steer? Or do you run the power steering rack?
Who has the cheapest price for one? $2500 is a bunch of cash to spend on one. I'm not real worried about air bags.

I put a Heidt's front crossmember in my first 53 pickup. I used junkyard stang II components ( no airbags, no tubular a- arms) I used he manual steering rack and it was fine. A guy I knew at the time who built afew of our trucks said I might not like the power rack because "its like the early Chrysler products, just atoo easy to turn the wheel". But maybe that what you want.
hope this helps. take it easy

I haven't totally given up on it yet but Im checking out all options. I saw in a street rod mag where a guy put a truck on a 84' monte carlo frame so it can be done. I don't know if my own personal fab abilities are there but I might give it a shot. The frame will need to be added to about 10-18 inches.

I have the hedit's front end on my 55. With power steering, tubular a-arms and shockwave air suspension all around. I learned the hard way about the GM power steering pump pressure and the Ford power rack are not compatable. The ford rack needs about 700-900 PSI to run and the GM pump puts out 1300 - 1350 PSI. Borgeson sells shims for the GM pump to decrease the pressure.

I'm thinking about taking the power off the 55. just to get rid of the pump, reservois and the belt.

I also have the hedit's 4 bar rear suspension, that is a real nice fit and works great. Noticed the difference over the leaf springs immediately!

I believe RBs Obsolete in Glendale, AZ also sells a valve that bolts onto the PS pump to limit the pressure to solve this problem...

I'm running a Heidts front crossmember with stock upper and lower control arms, stock spindles and a power rack (using a GM type 2 ?? pump with remote resevoir) on my 1948. Steering is a little touchy, but not to bad. Check my link 1948 below.
