Hey guys, Thinking of buying a 88 k1500 p/u. manual trans, new clutch, idler and pitman arm, new frt brakes, new oil sending unit, new radiator, hoses, fuel pump. tune up 1500 ago, per owner oil changed every 1500 and new tires 15000. Says burns a quart of oil every 1500. has owned for eight years. cleaner than average. Asking 1500?? I think its kind of high, Oh, it is a 5.0 v8,Any thoughts/stories on these motors with this kind of mileage. Thanks. I would like to get for less than 1k but???? Not looking to go cross country, just to dump, store, buy car parts etc, you know everyday driver really.

The 5.0 is the 305 isn't it? I have heard of only a few good stories about these engines. Otherwise I know that most people I know that had them, got rid of them and went with the 350.

How is the body on the truck? Interior, etc? 4 wheel drive? It all depends. I just bought a 93 one ton dually with 208,000 4 wheel drive for 5400. I would at least try to get the owner down to 1000.

Depending on rust and interior condition, that's a shade high, but if its just his asking price, he's probably in the ball-park. Offer him a grand, but expect that he'll want a little more than that. That's my opinion.

Just curious if you got the truck? Passed it up? How everything went.

Look for rusted fuel & brake lines though. they are a pain to change/make.
TBI engines commonly go to 300K+ . A guy i work with here has 330K on his 91 and the valve covers have never been off. uses 1 qt. every 5000 and thats when he changes oil. DAVE

Just a follow up. I passed on the 305 with 240k on it with 4x4 and reg cab. I actually found a 90 gmc ext. cab 2 wheel drive with a 5.7 and 150k with auto trans. Only rust on cab corners, (good place to get those??), Drove it home 85 miles and drove like a dream. Nice clean interior. Like I said only rust is cab corners and small dent in box. Has hard lid as well. Only $1950. Thought this was an awesome deal. I got it from the second owner who had it four years. Prior to that the original owner kept it garaged in winter as was down south with his camper and only drove in summer. Had little log with every oil change/trans change etc.
