View Full Version : Speaking of IE7
TugOwar 03-21-2006, 09:50 PM Didn't know there was a IE7 in the works until I read shifty mention it in another post. So I Googled it.
IE7 Beta 2 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/default.mspx) was released March 20th. But guess what, it will only run on Xp sp2 machines. And even when the final verison is released us poor schmucks who can't afford to upgrade from Win2k won't be able to use it. :whine:
No arguing please..... Thanks :metal:
swervin ervin 03-21-2006, 10:26 PM So what was your question? :D
shifty 03-21-2006, 10:38 PM i am addicted to IE7. it took some time to get used to at first (kept closing windows with like 8 tabs because i forgot it was tabbed browsing LOL).
sorry about your luck on the IE7 thing.

Mudder 03-23-2006, 05:42 AM I have it (IE7) and so far I have really liked it. I have tried about all the free browsers but keep going back to IE.

No thats not too expensive bro! I'll have to check into that.
That is the full version right? Not just an upgrade.
TugOwar 03-23-2006, 08:47 PM Just noticed thats only SP1, will that make a difference?
LUV2XCLR8 03-23-2006, 10:11 PM Is it this link ??? -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=22&p=1&SrcDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=6&SrcFamilyId=&u=%2fdownloads%2fdetails.aspx%3fFamilyID%3db2ac8f30-2d88-45b6-90ae-ed266161f463%26DisplayLang%3den
shifty 03-24-2006, 01:33 AM LUV: Yep, that's it.
TugOwar: Yes, it's the full version. It's also just the Home edition, but you should be fine with that. Basically, it IS using SP1, but you can upgrade to SP2 after install. Basically, as Windows releases new service packs, they roll them into the install disc so like ... right now there are copies of install discs of Windows XP with no service pack, copies pre-bundled ("streamlined") with SP1 and SP2 and ... when SP3 comes out, they'll start releasing install discs of Windows XP w/SP3.
panhandler62 03-24-2006, 09:42 AM I am trying out IE7 at home..... if there were more extensions (like the developer's toobar for Firefox) I could probably become a believer.
I notice that CSS level 2 support is still a bit dicey
shifty 03-24-2006, 01:57 PM yeah, it's still beta so those two items you're talking about are currently being worked on. the only reason that you don't see more extensions and add-ons is because it hasn't really gone official yet and i don't think any current ones for IE6 have been/are being ported yet.
LUV2XCLR8 03-24-2006, 07:46 PM LUV: Yep, that's it.
Hmmmmmm, that's just a WORD file, what gives ???

Got it, I'm trying to crash it, I mean testing it out now :hm:
shifty 03-28-2006, 04:24 PM The most important part to testing it is knowing all of the new features available - there's a presentation about them here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/tour/default.mspx
Check it out for more info. Some stuff you'll never use, but dang ... things like the text zooming feature is kickass!
screwballl 03-29-2006, 11:04 PM no thanks, it is a Firefox clone... or IE with firefox added features...this is why they are just now getting to add a few of the most basic features such as tabbed browing. anything available with IE6/7 can be had with either the Firefox browser or with an Extension.... no extensions worth a crap available for IE..
If theres a site that gives me problems then I just right click the page and hit "Open page in IE tab" and loads in firefox using an IE page as a tab.
OT: Also found a neat picture about Vista:
panhandler62 03-30-2006, 09:13 AM I haven't had any difficulty with IE7 except that I haven't found the control for "find on page" (except by enabeling the classic menu.)
It's a smidge faster and a bit more stable than Firefox .. but, obviously, thre aren't a lot of extensions yet. It still doesn't stack layers correctly (always wants to put displayable layers on top) but I'll give em time to fix that.. :)
shifty 03-30-2006, 06:02 PM no thanks, it is a Firefox clone...
typical "hater" response and riddled with untruths.
i am by far no micro$oft fanboi, i work with tru64 unix, linux and windows at the office, but i see merit in all of them. i'd appreciate it if you don't crap on otherwise productive threads with your beliefs.

Press CTRL+F.

Ya'll need to kiss and make up before someone gets mod slapped :hm:
Palf70Step 03-30-2006, 09:45 PM I like the clearness of the fonts now....It does tend to have a few quirks with getting the pages to center/load right occassionally. I'm not to sure about the other gadgets in it yet. I must say I do HATE the Microsoft habit of moving buttons with each new version and making me look or remember where they said they hid the things.
Yeah it reminds me of Firefox, but both do the job. Can't say which one I prefer the most, but since I am stuck with IE at work and I was more comfortable with it (until they moved the buttons again  ) becaue of using it more, I tend to use it more. We'll see if all the hype of both IE7 and Firefox hold out.
Andf yes, let us keep it friendly. Don't want to shut us down.
shifty 03-31-2006, 10:33 AM Yeah, that whole "hey, you know this one by heart, so LETS MOVE IT OR RENAME IT ON YA" crap is played out. When that happened with the disk scanning tools in Windows I got a little agitated. It's the first time I remember it since Win3.11 for workgroups. :D
shifty 03-31-2006, 10:36 AM PS - I'm actually glad they moved the buttons, just like I'm glad they changed heavily in WinXP. The more I've used it, the more ergonomical I've found the buttons to be. The one thing I use the most - the Favorites - is in the top left hand corner of every webpage and I click on it all day long. History and other things are in the same submenu with it (along w/RSS feeds) and the "+" button next to it lets you add them. I've been wookbarking a lot of sites :D
panhandler62 03-31-2006, 11:49 AM Do you wookbark lots of pages Shifty? ;)
shifty 03-31-2006, 01:07 PM Wow, my "M" somehow flipped itself upside down and traded places with the B. That doesn't make me dyslexic if I get the letters backwards AND upside down, does it?!
